Benchmarks, lads... benchmarks...

The Inquirer got off the mark early and compared it to the 9800GTX here (http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2008/06/14/complete-gtx280-scores-here)

Tom's Hardware also have one up - http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/nvidia-gtx-280,review-30971.html

There's a few others around...

Yeah but since they bought out PhysX I think (hope) it will be better...

Something tells me that Ginga's link to PC Case Gear might answer that one for ya...

I'd be impressed if there was one at MorB.

hmm, mustve missed that beefy. cheers. price tag isnt as steep as i expected. are they meant 2 b superior to the 9800gtx's or 9800's in general?

21-06-2008, 01:52 PM
they crap all over a GX2

theoretical they are meant to stomp all over them.

but we wont see the full potential of these cards until developers fully harness this technology, and better drivers are released. fact is, 9800GTXs are capable of running todays game full detail easily, so the GTX280s will too. it will be the likes of FarCry 2 and Crysis possibly that will benefit most.

22-06-2008, 04:31 PM
yeah 2 titles out of thousands. hardly worth it yet.

mind you i spent $800 on a video card 2 years ago, then i beat it down with a wicked one a couple of weeks ago for $195. i love my 9600GT

following the above post by rib, this card looks to be a bit of a quiet weapon that should perform fairly well..

http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2008/06/19/nvidia-has-9800-gtx-55nm-g92/1

9800GTX+ :)

for those of you who keep up with tech, its a bit like the 8800GTS SSCs of old...old tech slightly refined ;)

and to add to this, id liek to say that im still quite content with my first gen G80 8800GTS. it plays my games at max detail, it plays them at 1600x1200 no worries. it cost me $500 at the time but hey, its still awesome. no mater how hard you try to beat the buck, tech these days is always going to have more bang for its buck.

lol. with the amount of airflow in my case, thats an almost pointless buy..

Also, this (http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=207_23_311&products_id=4358) is my cpu cooler and it sucks air over the ram.. so even more pointless there :(

EDIT: Ah nuts!! The 4870X2 (http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=14928) is coming out and it pwnz!! I DONT WANT TO UPGRADE AGAIN >.<

+1. buy the best at the time and stick to it. it should last a year or 3 atleast.
