LAN Of The Damned: The Revisitation [Archive]

Just giving all you guys a heads up, due to the interest shown we are looking at holding the LAN Of The Damned: The Revisitation. The venue will be the same (Warrnambool Business Center) and we're looking at having it about mid-March, depending on when the Dennington LAN goes ahead. Stay posted for more news :D

EDIT: The LAN is now being held on the 5th & 6th of April, not mid-March.

nah when the power-out'd the other nite it killed my hub somehow so i bought a new netgear 8p 10/100 sw, nuthin spectacular :D (went from 4Mb/s transfers to 8Mb/s now yay...

We have set a date for the next LANOTD, though it's a bit later than previously indicated. It will be held on the first weekend in April which is the 5th & 6th so mark these days down on your calenders. The full details will be released when Ausgamers pull their fingers outta their butts and let me post the event.

We chose these days to coincide with the open day/s that will be held at the Warrnambool Business Centre. This will consist of a bunch of stuff to get the general public circulating through the building to see what's actually on offer there. There will be stalls and BBQs and lots of stuff like that, watch The Standard for details on the open day/s if you want to know more. I figured the open day/s would be a great way to open the world of gaming LANs to the public, most of which have never seen or heard of it before. Hopefully it will generate new interest and attract some new participants so make sure you come along as representatives of our local gaming community.

Because there will be people flowing through the building (during the day anyway) headphones will be a requirement. We won't impress anyone by supplying noise pollution.

i might just point out that due to the out in the public nature of the event, porn and other offensive content, along with most leaching, would be a big no-no until after dark when the open day shuts down, and offensive language (and people prone to using it without thought) might not go down to well :)

Well, if its an open day and porn and language is banned for the publics sake, what about all of the excessivly violent games we love so much?, won't that be view as innapropriate as well?

Porn and language were not actually banned. That would be a losing battle at a LAN I think. But Silencer is right in saying that leeching/viewing porn would be best left until the public has left, and if people could exercise a little restraint when it comes to language all should be well. I don't think restricting what games are played is neccessary...or even sane. We're gonna be in a room of our own and though the public will be walking past our room and possibly sticking their heads in the door, it's not like we're LANing in a thoroughfare or something.

Ok for those of you who didn't attend the last LAN Of The Damned or are directionally challenged here's a badly drawn map showing the location of the venue. We will be entering via the back door again due to the public nature of the day so as not to cause any hastles for ourselves or the general public. This door is located opposite house number 29E Lava Street. Inside the door should be some trolleys to load your gear onto, please return these when you have finished with them so others can use them. Once you enter the building head down the wide corridor a couple of meters and you will see the entrance to a passageway on your right. This will lead you up a ramp to a set of stairs and a service elevator. We have been allowed use of the elevator to transport our equipment upstairs but DO NOT try to open the elevator door by hand as you will wreck it, nor should any person ride inside this elevator. Once you have conquered the perils of the stairs head Northish past the kitchen and then left past reception. You can't miss us, we will be the room full of sweaty noisy geeks and a sign will be posted in the window.

lol, is the diagram that bad?? Do you know Lava Street? The rear entrance of Fletcher Jones/Warrnambool Business Center is at the Eastern end of Lava Street. The door is opposite House number 29E. Any clearer?

he said he WILL come except theres already 30 ppl and only 11 confirmed.. so it would be good if the ppl that arnt going would cancel.

That's right Peachy, it's time for all those who are registered for LANOTD:Rev and still plan to attend to confirm their registration.
If on the other hand you have registered and no longer wish to come, or are unable to come, please cancel your registration so that others can get on the list.
For those that haven't registered yet, you still can but you will be placed on a waiting list until someone else cancels.

Sorry dude but we're packed, it ain't a huge room. You'd remember it actually cause you organised a LAN in it years ago. All I can do is tell you to register and go on the waiting list incase something comes up.

Best 12 person LAN ever organised in under 3 days i think.

Skull, when are you picking up your tables? there is a $5 a day storage fee in my garage. :) Hold on, that means clawcity owes me about $750...per item.....ummm....i lost count.

Also Some spare cables / Power Boards if needed.

And Winter, required cable length kinda depends on where you end up sitting and how far away the switch is. It's personal choice really, I usually make mine 6 - 8 meters for a good switch-reaching length.
