View Full Version : Memory Issue **Updated**

G'day all,

Another one falls just prior to MorB, and I'm starting to think that my case is cursed.
Rewind back to about September, when I got a shiny new Antec Nine Hundred case, chucked the gear into there, and in the process one of my mates and I learnt just how well the carpet generated static electricity... end result - One dead motherboard.

Back to now, and with MorB coming up, I'd had the bits for my computer sitting outside the case, all was working fine, so I thought I'd take a shot and put it all back into the case (After we stuffed the old motherboard, I hadn't put anything inside the Nine Hundred) so in it all went, double-checked the wiring etc. etc. and fired it up, gets to bios and starts the memory count, but its not picking up the processor properly (It does this as a fall-back I reckon, usually happens when the mobo's been moved between cases) so I check the bios settings, all is well there.

Restart it, processor is detected no worries, but it can't seem to start running the memory test. So I gave it a couple of minutes, then restarted it, same result.
Turned everything off, gave it 15 mins (Sometimes this works) and tried again - Same result.
Oh Shit.

Anyone got any ideas please? I'm going to try replacing one of the ram sticks today, and failing that, pull everything out of the case and see if it works then.
Worst case scenario, I might have to copy Beefy from years back for MorB http://www.morb.ath.cx/modules.php?name=Photos&g2_itemId=3207

Thanks in advance,

Pottsie

**Update**

Seems the case is cursed, its killed a stick of ram, dunno how the bastard died, but I'm gonna try it again tonight (Fitting things in) if it doesn't work, then MorB may end up being missed.

aww bugger - sure u dont have a case short? or mebbe ur static-ness needs to be countered with an anti-static strap!

G'day,

If I do have a case short, I'm buggered if I can find the bastard.
And at the moment I'm working on it on a tiled surface, cardboard underneath, with clothes that don't keep any static charge. Save for an anti-static strap (Which I don't have) I'm buggered if there's much else I can do to prevent the build-up.

Cheers,

Pottsie

work on lino not on wool/synthetic carpet.

G'day,

In the end I was working on a tiled floor, if that can generate static, then I'm about buggered.
For the moment though, its lasted MorB running cool n stable, so for the meantime, it seems the issues have been put aside, now to fine-tune the sucker n get it back to working at its best.

Thanks for the replies.

Cheers,

Pottsie

G'day,

For the moment, it seems to be working, I've got some stuff to sort out with it all yet (One PCI slot may be knackered and I managed to kill a stick of ram - plus a network thingy might be on the rocks) but for the meantime, its alive - just with a limp.

Cheers,

Pottsie
