View Full Version : LAN Of The Damned XVI - The Aftermath
LAN Of The Damned XVI went very well on the weekend, I certainly had a great time. It was good to see a few new faces at the event, newcomers are always welcome. Unfortunately we missed out on our usual snack machine due to a breakdown, but it should make a return for the next event.
As always the Pizza Haven and McDonald's meals were well received, and for the first time ever we were able to run a raffle with some really good prizes thanks to the contributions of Gigabyte IT Solutions in the form of an Engin VOIP box, Netspace who provided some nice packs of stuff, and Thermaltake who gave us some great cooling gear. Hopefully we can do that again in the future.
Congratulations go out to the competition winners. The finish of the UT2004 comp was great with the top players only a few frags apart and constantly changing the leader. In the end it was won by The Master who received the shiny trophy with the prizes of a $50 voucher to Superbilling and a very nice Thermaltake mouse mat going to the runner up Ginga Ninja. The Worms Armageddon novelty comp was great fun, though many entrants obviously didn't test the game to see if it worked first :x Dark Trunks was the shiny trophy recipient with the prize of a $50 Superbilling voucher going to third place getter Dingo.
The photos from the LAN and stats from the competitions should be up on our website soon.
thanks for the lan man, one of the finest so far, Also thanks for the Netspace gear :D
I had a great time. Tell you what, that 4am to 7am stretch is a tough time to get through without snoozing but once I got my second wind it was all downhill from there ;) heh. Lookin' forward to the next one, hopefully I'll have upped my skills somewhat.
Brilliant LAN guys, and thanks for the gear!
Man, that UT comp was nuts...
Good to see everyone enjoyed themselves. Unfortunately people seem incapable of cleaning up their own rubbish, the amount of crap left laying around the hall was rediculous, particularly along the back row. We even found a package of fish and chips on the floor! Seriously how hard is it to put your rubbish in the bin, or even just shove it all in a bag or something???? We're LAN admins not bloody janitors! This problem has persisted at every event, in fact some admins are even suggesting we should ban food in the hall if things don't improve!!

part of the prob was probly that there were no bins to put the rubbish in...like there were two up the front...but they were full within like 5 hours
need wheelies :D
So if the bins are full you think stuff should be chucked on the floor??? Try tapping an admin on the shoulder and telling them the bin is full.
lol. I swear that half the people who comes to these events don't understand that if u throw crap on the floor someone has to pick it up.
I think we need a lan where we ban the eating of food in the hall an force people outside.

I don't mind that idea, as long as i have fun :D
basically we don't mind ppl eating in the event nor do we mind ppl having soft drink and other munchie goodness, what the problem is that ppl need to realize that their mums arnt going to pick up after them at these events. we go to a lot of effort to host these events, finding sponsors organizing comps so on and so forth, and it is a major downer on the event for us when we have to pick up countless bin loads of rubbish left allover the floor. a little consideration should go into making sure that the space you are sitting in is kept reasonably clean. so please in future try to keep this in mind or we may be left with no option but to save our selfs some hassles and not bother with cheep pizzas and McDonald's.
It really comes down to you guys and im not saying that all of you are the cause, it is mainly the back row that is the problem LAN after LAN. you wouldn't do it at home so why do it anywhere else.
we need, a LARGE, designated rubbish area :P or something...are there any wheelie bins in the st pius premesis that are able to be borrowed?
haha or a simple, u have to check out of the event, and the admin inspects that u ahve cleaned up when u do :P
we need, a LARGE, designated rubbish area
that would be the skip bin out the front.
anyways enough bitching, had an awesome time before i had to go home sick was a shame cod4 was awesome shame that MOH airborne dont have lan support EA are fags for crap like that,
crysis and ut3 look awesome about time we had some new flavor to the lans if i have to look at cod 2 ever again i might just kill myself.
About the rubbish issue here are a few ideas perhaps that might help a little? I dunno... firstly, buy a box/packet/whatever they are of garbage bags (I suggest ones with handles that you can tie closed) and place it on the wall near the bins or something, so if the bins get full at least there is a bag there.
As well as this, perhaps have someone (and I am sure more than one person would be willing to do it) who gets a bag or two or even a bin, and wanders around a couple times during the night and gets people to throw their crap in the bin. As best I know almost everyone got up at some point to stretch and walk around so I am sure getting a couple volunteers would be easy... or even offer some sort of incentive (I would have gladly wandered around two or three times over the event doing a rubbish collect to score a reward of some sort?)
Along with this you can do an announcement every so often about it as well, like when food turns up just remind people that the bins are there and bags or whatever.
I reckon with those few things that it'd be more manageable. But that's just me. I'm willing to be the 'walk around with the bins guy' every few hours at the next LotD if it'll score me a gigabit connection ;) hehehe
no tf2 it was basically the dawn of a new era COD4 reigns supreme not that im complaining cod 2 was more stagnant that CS:S.
TF2 i wanted to play but i think that a majority of the LAN were to busy playing CoD4
The bin is an easy issue... If it is rubbish, then put it in the bin
Now i know that some people cant comprehend what a computer Bit is but everyone knows what a Bin is. Please put ya Bits in the Bin.. It saves alot more time for the Admins to do other stuff and lets them get home faster and cleaner after having to pack up tables because everyone leaves early!
I think it could be slightly interesting having a tempoary ban on certain people who dont have there items in the Bin (Like 10 Minutes off the network or exqualified from the comp or at a disasvantage) or going to an extreme with an actuall enviromental fine lol.... Or at the next event thay have a certain time limit they have to endureer before they can start playing and if they cant wait, they can pay $5 as punishment (pretty ghey)...Some pretty extrene solutions there!
Once Again...

It was entertaining, although I hope I didn't offend too many with my own alter-ego (CorpusCrispy) on leecher-chat. :X
if there was no rubbish after the lan, there would be nothing to feed my family with.
