Hey boys and girls.

I have a problem for you all. I'm creating a file server using windows 2k3 server as I want it to do other things then just file server. anyways onto the problem. I have no onboard sata ports on my mobo so i have installed a pci expansion board which is working fine detecting the drive and all. however when i go into windows it is detecting the hdd in the disk management section but its not assigning it a letter or anything. I would normally fix this by formating it and would be all good. however there is about 200gb of data on it so that wont work here. any suggestions to what i can do?

well if its detecting it.. does it show up as an unknown or foreign disk as far as disk type goes?

if its normal, just it just think its a basic unpartitioned disk?

if the latter, was this disk moved from a non-raid to a raid controller or vice-versa?

it is detecting the hdd in the disk management section but its not assigning it a letter or anything. Can you manually assign it a letter in Disk Management? Does it show as a healthy partition?

If nothing works, a screenshot of what shows in Disk Management might help.
