View Full Version : Once again, Intel or AMD? lol

24-08-2006, 07:07 PM
ok, yeah im here again, im sick of my hotbox being hot. so im in the position of upgrading, already done the viddie (x1900GT ftw :D) so, the question now is, AMD or intel?

Now yes, intel have gained strength in there conroes, but eh?!

The two setups im considering are:

AMD 4600+ X2

Intel Core2 Duo E6600

yes, both 2.4GHz, intel with 4mb L2, AMD with 2mb, dual core, and yeah. intel is cooler though, amazingly, only 65W, compared to the 89W AMD.

Ill be either using the new DFI CFX-3200-AM2 mobo, that doesnt even exist yet other than in the labs, OR for the intel, either the iD975XBX board, or the ASUS P5W DH dlx, since there arnt any DFI lanpartys for new intels yet.

And, to top it off, ill be transfering my 1GB kit of 533MHz OCZ (that runs at 667MHz fine, at tight lats) into it too.

So what do yas rekn? im torn between the two.

btw, this upgrade has to last, im gonna be saving up for a car after iv done this, so it has to last 2-3years, hopefully. AND i dont want to make the same mistake twice, im sure most of you will remember last time....i learnt the hot way :P

Intel. The core2 duo is unstoppable atm

24-08-2006, 09:54 PM
indeed. so like, i converted from intel to AMD, now back to intel lol, without even having owned an AMD ^_^

unless someone can change my mind, i think ill stick with teh intel

actually, someone come up with a pros/cons list

24-08-2006, 10:03 PM
I've been pushing AMD chips since the early XP chips.. but I know when something better comes along... :)

24-08-2006, 11:17 PM
Have to agree, the ball is in intels court atm..

If i had the $$ i would be upgrading right this moment...

29-08-2006, 10:41 PM
well, deed is done, just orderd an E6600, and the ASUS P5W DH Deluxe mobo...ill let ya know how it pans out :)

rarther than start an new topic i thought that i should steel ur thread zlr hope u dun mind.

im plooting my next upgrade and just want a few opinions.

first I was thinking

AM2 FX62
ASUS croshair board
nvidia 7950
2gb ram

and second im thinkin

intel core2 X6800
Asus P5B deluxe
same vid and ram

what do u guys think:
1 Intel all the way
2 Amd all the way
3 U have more money than brains
4 the is nothing wron with yr current system what the hell are u thinking

04-09-2006, 04:32 PM
Intel.

04-09-2006, 04:43 PM
yeah the intel setup, but go the P5W DH Dlx mobo, has a faster NB ;)

btw, remember, an E6600 is about even with an FX-62, E6700 just beats it, and the X6800... personally id rather go a E6700, but if you have the $$$$, X6800 ftw :P

and nah i dont mind

04-09-2006, 07:41 PM
ok then cool
what is the opinion on the the ati x1900 vs the nvidia 7950

there is a fair price diff that is for sure

04-09-2006, 07:44 PM
depends which X1900 your talking bout, GT, XT, XTX?

also, consider the X1950 series too, since there the last DX9 cards, ever.

I'm a little wary of recommending the Crosshair...Once my replacement arrives I'll let you know if its a dud too.

05-09-2006, 02:11 AM
the fact that the crosshair has been out for only a matter of weeks probably says somthing. it takes time to iron out bugs in such new hardware, remember that kiddies ;)

i always like to wait until stuff has been out for ATLEAST a month before buying. gives ppl time to find these bugs and such...

05-09-2006, 07:31 PM
well i think that it is clear that I may be crossing to the darkside (INTEL) this will be a first im a self confessed AMD fanboy but hey you have to follow the trends and INtel OWN AMD at this point in time.

I'm a little wary of recommending the Crosshair...Once my replacement arrives I'll let you know if its a dud too.

I dont spose u got it from scoprtec did u??

05-09-2006, 07:51 PM
 Wow. You really hate Scorptec.

No, I got it from CPL. I've already sent them back a hard disk, and they replaced it straight away. Hopefully it will be the same with the Crosshair.

05-09-2006, 08:04 PM

i used to swear by scorptec but sence they were bought out and moved to the bigger shop there service and products went to shit.

I've been dealing with scorptec for going on 4 years now and i have had no problems with them wot so ever. they have always given me the best service and i have had no problems with the parts that i have bought off them.

05-09-2006, 11:53 PM
there good as, like, next day delivery :)

although there prices are starting to bug me...

06-09-2006, 01:18 AM
I saw they had a new shop. Looks nice.
Have they really been bought out by some usless tosser who obviously doen't give a crap? Grr I say.
I've had great service and delivery from them for years but haven't bought anything there recently. Curse my family and it's need for food and shelter! :P

06-09-2006, 09:11 AM
they were bought out about 4 years ago well that was the rumour i know they changed shops and phone numbers.

also the people you dealt with changed as well.

I still use them as there delivery service is awsome but if something has to go back they can be a real pain.

Even right down to sending the item back to you cod so that you have to pay for there postage.

06-09-2006, 06:23 PM
try www.gamedude.com.au the prices are far better althought the web page aint all that great, scorptec are still a good referance for parts tho. but i will never buy from them again

http://shop.pc.net.au/ may also be worth a go

also try www.staticice.com.au for finding all your pc needs

06-09-2006, 07:05 PM
