View Full Version : Screenshot Troubles

09-02-2006, 11:32 AM
I've been trying to get a screenshot to put with my Dungeon Keeper mod, but so far everything i've tried has come out all pixellated and crap. I've googled a heap of screen capturing software but the results have just been varying grades of shite. Anyone know a good program??

Printscreen?

First thing I tried, here's an example (http://lanotd.viclan.org.au/images/CrapCapture.gif) of how they're coming out, and that's one of the good ones.

buy a new video card

]buy a new video card

It's not a video card issue.
You need a program like Snap3DFX to read the data out of the card instead of DirectX/OpenGL.
Snap3DFX obviously applies to 3DFX cards (as they were always a bastard to screenshot correctly.)
I'm sure there are other similar things around now.

i never had a problem taking ss's with my awsome voodoo!

My Voodoo2 had troubles capturing from the Glide Driver. No probs with the DX/GL. Keep in mind Quake and the like had support built in to read it correctly, Q2 saved the files in TGA if you ran Glide, or PCX if GL. You couldn't print screen a 3DFX normally (for the pass-thru models at least) as it used to blank out the 2D cards screen.

I loved the fact that if u used SLI on the Voodoo2 it effectively took up 3 PCI slots, back when you only had 4 total. (or in the case of some early mainboards, only 2)

Had a hard time tracking down Snap3DFX, unfortunately it seems to be designed to run under Win95 with Glide cards and doesn't do a thing on my system

I said something similar to it.
Sorry :(

Ah see the problem with naming your company 3DFX, is the term applies to evey 3D card on the market.

I am looking for a similar program but most sites neglect to mention where the program gets the image from.

Bah, i've tried 11 different screenshot programs now and not one of them can manage to give me a clean picture, and people actually pay money for these things!!!

When all else fails just use a camera

When all else fails just use a cameraOr, Set-top DVD Recorder (or PC capture card) and grab your S-Vid output.

When all else fails just use a cameraI may have to resort to that, but i'd have to borrow a screen off someone. I've only got a CRT and it comes up with lovely lines on it.

Not all games are that friendly...

on the monitor, not the game.

I can't speak for this one, but I have various games that ignore the winblows refresh rate and set their own.
Unless your card supports forced mode, then yeah...

Plus even with high refresh rates, there's a good chance a photo will get a shot of refresh lines.

EDIT: just had a thought. Did you try FRAPS?
