View Full Version : MorB 10 - The Aftermath

16-01-2006, 10:06 AM
So we've now completed our tenth (or eleventh) big event... What did people think this time around?

---------------

I had a good time. First time in a while I've actively gamed, which I had no intention of doing to start with. Thanks to the RAP guys for letting me play (pity I missed the first round, but BL did ok). Then the Quake 4 comp was a bit of fun. Tis a shame we couldn't play in the final either. Not that we could actually be allowed to win it, but it would have been fun to get up and duct tape Axol to his chair mid-round to stop him beating us single handedly.

Some of the other events were a bit of fun too. The DDR mats were a big hit, interviews were a laugh and a half... The raffle was our closest change to an all-in brawl, but we missed it. :(.... The red shirt thing fell through, which was a big letdown, but these things happen. Thanks to all those that went to the effort to find something red.

From the admin side of things, it seemed to flow along a bit nicer this time around. Aside from a MAC address conflict and The Installer, there wasn't any major technical problems (well, if there was I missed them :) ). Registrations, activations and pizza orders went smoothly. Microwave Boy, unfortunately, didn't get strung from the roof, but public humiliation seems enough.

Anyways, once I get my video camera back (hopefully one of the admins grabbed it) we'll see about getting the new video up and running.

16-01-2006, 10:24 AM
I hocked it to buy smokes and coffee

16-01-2006, 10:46 AM
I'll hock you in a minute...

16-01-2006, 12:00 PM
i wondered y u had 20 boxes sittin out the front lol.

well i had fun :P was a very different experience actually running the servers instead of playing them :)

ill know what to do 4 next time now

16-01-2006, 02:34 PM
it was great, just an idea

i wouldnt mind a death match server up next time, its not hard to install or find

or a thing how ya type "rank" and it comes up with ya rank thing
as in "Narc is ranked 345 out of 500 people with a .6 kills per death" sort of like how node and other servers do it

16-01-2006, 02:55 PM
Hmmm a ranking system. Sounds like a good addon for the ALP system (wink wink nudge nudge sKs)

A couple of tings I'd like to mention to people.

First the BAD stuff.

Please keep in mind that we do not get paid to run theses events. All the admins donate there time effort and a lot of the Equipment (around 4 to 5 grand worth of our personal stuff).

So one thing we'd like to ask is that you take the 5 to 10 minutes before you leave to give your area a quick tidy up. 5 minutes by each person at the lan saves us hours at the end. All we ask is that you place your rubbish in the bins and if you have split a drink or something just ask us for a cloth to wipe it up with.

An now some good stuff.

Many people came up to us at the end of thanked us for the event. We like that.

Great to see a lot of people use our Chill zone. DDR seemed a hit with the GF's so tell them to come vist you for 5 mins next lan and have a dance.

Smoothies were awsome, Big thanks to bree.

Guys from Blitz / Monsterlan / other people who traveled long distances , Thanks for coming along it's nice to know we have a LAN worth driving 2 hours to get to.

The Admin's as always a pleasure doing bussiness.

an last Big thanks to Skullshot as always for knowing what the hell we should be doing.

16-01-2006, 02:57 PM
Will work well with the server query type setup too..

I remember back in the day when we had old CS charts, what happened to those?

16-01-2006, 03:03 PM
yeh, was the best LAN i been to, only my 4th, but still a GREAT EXPERIENCE :D .

ye AirBuccanears comp was my pick, mainly cos i won a medal, but it was great fun, soz to all the people sitting around who had to put up with me yelling out commands across ye hall :P YARRRRRRRRRRRR

CSS comp was also great, for a first entrant in any comp, i think RPG did pretty well for ourselves. and a minor idea, dont password protect the servers, just to ease the load on darty :P

thanks goes out to all the admins for hosting a great LAN

(when i track down that damn monkey o urs damo, its burning time  )

16-01-2006, 03:09 PM
(when i track down that damn monkey o urs damo, its burning time  )I'll hold him down, you burn him.

Oh, you meant the monkey.. :(

EDIT: Got my vid cam back from sks and flicked over the footage. Not as much as I would have liked (guess I should have taken more tapes) but it'll suffice. The interviews worked out rather well ;)

16-01-2006, 05:06 PM
yes it was a awesome lan i liekd it heaps coz u know winning the comp even if i did play really bad in the comp and out i was good as :P and i dont care if the last match may or may not have been thrown it was good to rub it in :D a few let downs one of witch was beefy..... he didn't molest me and yeah a big thanks to the mins who made it happen and a round of applaudes goes to the frage wieners 4 putting up with me :D

16-01-2006, 07:10 PM
good lan, not much to improve on at all guys! veryh good work and hope all enjoyed it!

16-01-2006, 08:18 PM
oh and there was no whiteboard sp people who haddn't been to one b4 had no idea about the dc ++ thing someone gave it to em and didn't tell them how to use it.... but the the leader if WANK and also one of the awesome cs:s chaps was there to save the day

16-01-2006, 08:40 PM
You can ask admins questions like that. They usually get spread around pretty quickly anyways.

16-01-2006, 08:44 PM
obvoisly not and they was noobies they dont know who the mins are

16-01-2006, 08:46 PM
OK. The bunch of dodgy looking guys, wearing matching t-shirts that say 'ADMIN' is probably a good place to start. The guys with the microphones... good place to start. The ones in the special admin area? Good place to start.

What do you mean, obviously not? You found out, didn't you? Hence it spread around itself.

16-01-2006, 09:07 PM
leaching is bad mkay.

16-01-2006, 11:08 PM
wasn't it posted on the web page?

16-01-2006, 11:25 PM
They wouldn't have known about that either... aside from the repeated announcements.

16-01-2006, 11:36 PM
:D Hey all, you guys know how well it all went, there was nothing to improve on, mebbe destroy that fkn monkey and um, put a anti-me lock on the microwave LoL! sorry bout all that everybody, brauer technology... awesome lan - by far the most fun morb i've been to. Many thanks to all the admins especially Damo nd Sks for trying to help for at least two hours to get battlefield 2 up n running, lots of fun, thnks again guys!

-Microwave Boy-

16-01-2006, 11:44 PM
So that's who Microwave Boy was...

16-01-2006, 11:52 PM
oh pffft peachy had he's own space and they was in there own lil group so they didn't want to talk to the dodgy looking people they only talked to me coz i was talking to them but yeah 4 them it mighta paid off to pay more attention

17-01-2006, 12:08 AM
Skullshot's thoughts about microwave boy (http://www.beefysworld.com/files/sks.wmv) (500k, was screwing around)

17-01-2006, 12:31 AM
Well another great lan down...

Now where to start. Well the Pre-Party was a blast. With the normal crew turning up! There was drinks all around, many hugs and laughs. We played war with 4 decks of cards and poor brad got picked on, his drinks where going down like a $2 whore. So he ended up with the bucket.. and yet a friendly suprise.. when axol was the one who throw up..hehe :) A few of the Monsterlan`ers turned up later on in the night, with scotty already pissed..hehe :D There still needs to be a camera there, to get all the good shots... im disapointed Beefy.

The Lan was a more enjoyable lan this time around for me, I didnt leech that much at all (1.36gb) but i upload a stack.. with my name even coming up in DC++, Cisco_Queen's Pron :D. Sorry to all the people at the end of the lan who wanted my stargate (as i found at, i was the only person. who had EVERY single eps :D) There will be more LANs to come, you can all get it then :)
Well done to the MonsterLAN crew who won the Q4 CTF comp and bringing home the medals to Geelong!! also Well done to WANK for winning CSS.. altho there head dude, was a wanker himself!! Good Job to the ML crew for coming 2nd, and we as the BliTz team were very happy for coming 4th, since we dont even play CSS :D

What happened to the Red Theme? i went all out in style and i even had red PJ's packed too :(

Well Thanks to the Admins for putting on another great event.. Top Stuff!!

Just on side note: What with the Noodle Box in town? The food was horrible, No taste what so ever.. and it was all dry :(

17-01-2006, 12:39 AM
I would congratulate WANK for there win, but they were not very friendly winners so they know where they can go...

Well done to us for winning Q4, and no, darty didnt single handedly win it, he got 6 out of seven caps, but we all defended and protected him, CTF is a team game. Thanls Axol for playin on our team.

You can count on us being at the next MorB, well, if we dont come to the LAN, we will definatly come to the pre party :D

Was an awesome LAN, one of the best i have been to.
Thanks to all the Admins for the event/Pre Party/ Medal and my NEW LOGITECH G7 Laser Mouse

Thanks guys

17-01-2006, 01:13 AM
Next time would you please f*cking throw the tools playing with soccer balls etc on the Basketball court, out!?

Fuck.

Almost knocked over my mates LCD. :/

17-01-2006, 02:26 AM
My first LAN, ever.

IT WAS AWSOME, nothing went good for me, yet I had the best fun. The games looked good, yet none of them worked for me as when I tried unzipping CSS all I was getting was folders and when I tried getting the UT2004server it wouldn't download cause some one was using it (blacklord, grrrrr) and in the interview the only thing that was remotely funny was my superpower, TO BE SMART (which I should have wished that I could aim better in fps's, CAUSE THAT SO DRIVES ME UP THE WALL)

Anyway, enough complaing, the LAN kicked ass, cause I got my computer for 24 hours straight withouy anyone tell me to get off the comppy.

anyway, last but not least, "honey i bought you this chair" "um, cant you see im sitting on this one"

Can't wait till next year, Raven_Ruler

So am I! I still haven't made it to a preparty yet :(

f***.

Almost knocked over my mates LCD. :/If they were a problem, then you should have told us. When I saw them playing they seemed to be under control and away from others...

I lost sight on where they went straight after it happened... they probably bailed.

Even if it's 'controlled', why would you kick/throw a ball around on a basketball court that's alongside ~110 Computers?

Next time (it happens every year) - you should tell them to stop using the balls completely, instead of just telling them "don't throw it at the roof" etc... If they want to play with the balls, or their own even; make them go outside!

Why would you play musical chairs with metal chairs on a basketball court? :)

Personally, I didn't realise it was an issue in the past. I do remember we dropped the divider screen down one year, and they played behind that. Perhaps, if we had of known they were interfering / causing problems, we could have done the same? Sometimes people just want a little physical activity to break up the monotony of sittin on a chair for 12 hours straight. Like the DDR mats. ;)

But it all boils down to this - if we don't know what's happening, we can't really do anything about it.

17-01-2006, 04:10 PM
Fantastic lan! I had lots of fun, played plenty of games, abused lots of noobs. Pity I had to miss half the CS comp to pick my missus up from work. the noob I had cover for me did ok I've heard but I think I could have done alot better. I did manage to wipe out Delta's whole team with a magnum in the second round! :D

I didn't do as much leeching this time but still got some good stuff. About the only thing people seemed to be getting off me was the first season of Prison Break, which is a fantastic show.
Cisco_queen, did you go to Noodle Box or Noodle Canteen? I got to the Box all the time and love their Nasi rice box. I've never had a problem with the food.

Great job by all the admins! (except JT cause he smells :P )
Even if axol couldn't get a CoD2 sever going we still had some good rounds going. Gotta love that trench gun!
The musical chairs thing was funny to watch but I'd be annoyed if my ticket got drawn and then I missed out cause of a seat call. good thing I didn't buy extra tickets.
So what exactly was the plan for the "wear lots of red" thing anyway? I was gunna dress all in red but never got around to it and settled for a t-shirt.

Best. Morb. Ever.

The Noodle Box right on the main street... BunkyB and I went there and got dinner on the friday night... maybe it was the chef for the night, but it had no flavour at all. i was quite disappointed :(

17-01-2006, 07:08 PM
obviously the taste of something else was still in your mouth.

noodle box is da shiznat! its good!

17-01-2006, 11:22 PM
i like there hokian??

somethiung like that, its really good

18-01-2006, 12:12 AM

yeah, they've got 3 different chefs there and 2 guys that put the food together. I get the same box every time, but depending on who makes it and who cooks it, it's always a bit different. i think the amount of spice they put in has dropped a little since they started too since i always get medium, but it's not half as spicy as it used to be when they started.

18-01-2006, 12:17 AM
narc i think you mean hokkien mee in my opinion i find both of them make their food to sweet and isnt traditional but the noodle canteen has a pretty good char kwey teow not sure what number it is

18-01-2006, 02:31 AM
id still prefer hungry jacks over noodle box any day

18-01-2006, 11:08 AM
Skullshot's thoughts about microwave boy (http://www.beefysworld.com/files/sks.wmv) (500k, was screwing around)Nice work Beefy, just shows people shouldn't mess with LAN admins
oh and there was no whiteboardOur whiteboard is teh leetestest in teh world!!!!

18-01-2006, 12:35 PM
whiteboard doesn't work.

for one its not possible to have a big enough one for everyone to see! and no matter whats on it.

we still get the same questions... "oh whats the dc hub... -- look at the projector" its easyer to ask the person next to you!

18-01-2006, 03:36 PM
+ whiteboard is not DHCP enabled

18-01-2006, 05:39 PM
I had a fun weekend, helped with the setup once again and thats getting easier and easier to do each time with all the planning that goes into it and those cables are teh pwnage. The pre-party was great, sks and i played war TWICE we win AMERICA... FUCK YEAH!!!

I played the cs comp, it ran well and i had fun except that my captains needed to work out what they were doing, in the end i think they got it. Went to enter the Q4 comp and started in the pre-match games and it wasnt my sort of game so i pulled out before the comp started. I would like to see the return of THE MARATHON as in the last lan, i played for the most part of the lan and had heaps of fun playing COD, Q3 and UT2004.

The novilty game was awesome 'Air Buccaneers' (spelt it right first time wtf) if you didnt play this you MUST stay around till sunday morning and play this next time - Hot air balloons, cannons, mexicans, swords, air mines, flame throwing cannons - destroy hot air balloons by loading cannon balls, aiming then lighting your fuse or get the mexican (or other players) to load and fire for you. Heaps of fun.

Sif make people work for the prizes sks, just to make sure that i don't/can't win again.

Cheers to the admins for all the work that you guys put in and i look forward to doing it all again in another 6 months or there abouts.

As for displaying information for the new morb attendies discussion you should produce that flyer that you had around MorB 5 that they can pickup so they get to know the basics. You may only need to make less than 50 and have a few posted around the place.

18-01-2006, 06:06 PM
Almost all admins seemed real approachable and I saw 'em helpin' out noobs. I have to say it seemed like the most proffesional one yet. The extra activities were great and same with the smoothies. Easily worth the entry fee for the leaching and gaming. Mega highlight though: scarring the crap out of microwave boy.

(my 2cent gripe)
Although if there are special terms and conditions for a raffle then they should be displayed beforehand. I wouldnt have wasted my money on tickets, as it didnt seem fair.

Sorry I chucked a wobbly...

18-01-2006, 07:02 PM
what was unfair bout the raffle, i thought it was sweet...

*hugs brand new Logitich G7* :d

18-01-2006, 07:07 PM
yu were lucky the other fellow was a good sport and walked off, maybe you wouldnt have that mouse

18-01-2006, 07:26 PM
I think the chairs added a bit of a break, draggin all away from the pcs, and worth a laugh.

( /strokes burner :) )

18-01-2006, 11:20 PM
ROFL! when he got up on musical chairs i thought he was gonna murder that guy, wait till the photo of him scaring me, i think a little pee came out lol.

19-01-2006, 04:31 PM
nah the raffle seemed fair as..

it was a combination of humor for both the people in it as well as the people that were watching.

It breaks away from the standard raffle that lanx does and the raffle system that ML does. They are good for the people that win and someone always bitches that the raffles are rigged. this way everyone had fun and no one can claim anything was shifty about the raffle. And as skull did say, everyone was in for a suprise with the raffle.

19-01-2006, 08:41 PM
but why did have to wear red

19-01-2006, 08:46 PM
thats a secret.

it was going to be awsome and never been done before anywhere... but it fell through... might have to save it for next time...

20-01-2006, 12:09 AM
Narrrr, come on. You have to tell.

Those that wore red deserve to know :P

If it's a competition like, 'Those wearing red in a musical chairs' thing, tell us beforehand so I don't wear red.

20-01-2006, 03:28 AM
Lawl better do it at morb 11 then. ^_^

20-01-2006, 01:50 PM
Yeah the red thing fell through but it was gonna be awsome an involve dragons, exstreme sports and scantily clad babes. but the babes found out we were geeks an decided to skip it. If only theyknew we had DDR on the xbox :-(

20-01-2006, 02:15 PM
Screw it, I'm gonna spoil the red thing.

We were gonna get you all to start running through the school grounds, then release a couple fiesty bulls. Woulda been like a mini-Pamplona. Great for video footage. Might have even got 2nd place on Australia's Lamest Home Videos..

20-01-2006, 02:38 PM
Oh ok, cool.

Next time I will buy red pants, too.

20-01-2006, 02:44 PM
Capes are also recommended. They add that flowing in the wind effect, make it easier to get caught on bull horns, and can be used to mop up blood after.

20-01-2006, 04:31 PM
dammit beefy i thought we told u not to give it away :P

20-01-2006, 05:23 PM
I still say horny Rams would have been more entertaining

20-01-2006, 06:03 PM
I guess it depends how you planned to have them 'entertain' you BL

20-01-2006, 06:31 PM
Considering they say Hamilton was born on the sheeps back.

(yes the Mayor came out with that one BL, an now u work 4 him!!)

20-01-2006, 10:47 PM
lol, the scarey thing was i was talking to sks a few weeks back and said whats with the whole red thing? are you going to let bulls loose or something?

14-02-2006, 07:44 PM
hey it was an awsome event, my first and i think i will be doing this for while to come.
i think the comps should have bin spread out a bit more along the night but it was still gr8 :D
i really wanted to join in some of the comps but i had problem after problem with the games (my com is a celeron, i kno, i kno, u can all hit me l8er), so i had a lot of trouble, css didnt work so i couldnt play that and air buccaneers didnt work either and i didnt bother with quake 4 coz i didnt think it would work until l8er when i figured out that it did work and i almost stabed mi self.
i should have a new pc soon so i will b able to join in more,
i had no idea we had to wear red untill the actual event, but i dont have anything red anyway :( .

14-02-2006, 11:41 PM
omg... do you breathe?

19-02-2006, 10:05 PM
wen i feel like it
