personally, i'd just OC the mx200 to mx400 levels and be done with it, elsewise, save your money up to buy a newer 4th or 5th gen card, mebbe even go the way of the new radeons...

20-09-2002, 10:54 AM
what he said. I must say though, there is a fair difference between the cards. Friend of mine got a 200, got 1800 3DMark... put in my 400, got 2400..... :)

sks is right, use something like riva tuner to overclock and save those goldones to get a new card.

like I said the ati 9000 pros are like 220-239$ and i cant believe im endorsing ati but hey they are a tidy card for the price.

tyan TACHYON g9000 radeon for 220$

20-09-2002, 11:58 AM
are you sure about that price?

And i'd forget the 9000 Pro and go for a 9700 Pro.. *drools*

ya read it in this months atomic..

SPECIFICATIONS

Tyan TACHYON G9000

ATI RV250 chipset; 64mb 275mhz ddr-ram;agp 4x,DVI

Website: www.tyan.com
supplier: www.digicor.com.au

phone: Digicor 03 9560 7222 Price: $220

i slipped over to the digicor website but found no trace of this card so Im assumming that they havnt updated ther site.
or that u have to call them to order.

at tyan website there a few links to distributers as well but they dont seem to have it listed as well.

and ya the 9700 pro is sweet but exspensive as well which makes it out of range for clawcity..:D

if you were to sell the two cards youd be better off (an probably be able to afford) a gf4 mx card... i got mine about 5 months ago (leadtek winfast A170 64mb gf4 mx440).

it cost me $230 and i havnt had a problem with it since, plus it runs every game i have perfectly and with a score of 4500+ in 3d mark i dont think ill be buying a new video card in the forseeable future (unless it blows up *touch wood*)

any one know weather nVidia is gonna release the gf5 series in reply to ATIs new cards?

20-09-2002, 03:16 PM
Apparently it's not the GF5 as such, but they are releasing their new chip NV30-based cards sometime soon. I also heard that they are releasing NV28, which is apparently the GF4 with AGP 8x support and a few other little things.. Apparently. :)

I don't mean to be rude but have you people forgotten who you're talking to??? The cash I get from the sale of the TNT2 and the gf2 mx200 will be it, there is no more....It's all fine to recommend $200+ cards but I'll only have about $120 to play with.

All these cards, tho they might be a little bit too expensive, would probably be the ones that id go for on a stretched budget:

ASUS V8170 Geforce4 MX420 $165.00
Auriga 64M Geforce4 MX440 $145.20
Leadtek Winfast 64M GeForce4 MX440 $159.72 (same as my card)
MSI 64Mb Geforce4 MX420 $139.00

They might seem a bit sh1t to some but ive got the leadtek card and ive had no probs with it at all. plus most of them are pretty new so you wouldnt have to worry about upgrading it for a while.

looks like youll just have to find some unsuspecting, computer illeterate people to sell your other cards to so you can make a little more money...

sheesh dude I'm almost considering donating the difference between that ~$120 and the cheaper gf4s there :P

me vote a passing of the hat at the lan on the 28th we can call it save clawcitys kidneys fund all donotions go to the purchase of a new card.1.00$ here 1.00$ there who knows..:D

23-09-2002, 01:05 PM
how about we ALL start our own little collections, and EVERYONE pays $1 to each of the other people... :) then we all come out even.

23-09-2002, 04:12 PM
I like that idea Shadowman :D

23-09-2002, 07:26 PM
Shouldve put this on the bottom of the last post...

those prices are from Computer World Melbourne (http://www.cworld.com.au) .they seem to have the best prices in melbourne that ive found. i buy all my stuff from there.

dunno what the mx420s are like... probably not much of a preformance difference between the 440s and the 420s, but hard to say as i dont know of anyone who has one...

23-09-2002, 07:33 PM
Cool, does anybody know if the 420 has DDR??

24-09-2002, 03:29 PM
Go Here for more info.... (http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/vga/vga/pro_vga_detail.php?UID=323&MODEL=MS-8878)

hey comes with some games too.....
good old msi and their gimicks!

26-09-2002, 12:35 AM
CW 's prices are fairly good....

HiTech 64M GF2 MX400 with TV out $99.00

thats in ur budget ClawCity or the
MSI 64Mb G4MX420D-T has DDR SDRAM an the
MSI 64Mb G4MX420-T has only SDRAM so the price for the
MSI 64Mb Geforce4 MX420 At CW of $139.00
would have to be checked to see what model it is, most likely the SDRAM ver.

26-09-2002, 06:27 AM
I'd say it is the SD model considering it's written on the box......

26-09-2002, 07:06 AM
I know I just put that pic up ti inspire u.;)
