Lan Of The Damned - Discussion

In about a months time the Legion of the Damned will be holding a LAN and I'm looking for expressions of interest and ideas / opinions. The plan so far is to hold it in Dennington so the limit will be about 30 people. It will be a plug and play LAN with no organised comps, just good old fashioned fragging. We were thinking of utilizing the whiteboard there so everyone knows what games are currently on. When someone hosts a game they write it up, when the game ends they rub it off. We'll post more info here when we have it.

I'll go if there's a promise of NO HL based games. :)

Plus, I can expand the whiteboard idea to a projector running Server Query or something. :)

Yes yes i know i have been a bit slack on the organisation for this,but as i kept telling ppl i have been tied down trying to get all the stuff togeather so that i can join the real army instead of playing army man.

back to the point.

at this stage we have no confirmed date but i will try to keep you all posted.

and as for the no halfwit......Er....halfassed.... ummmm....halflife based games unfortunately it is a bit hard to tell ppl that they just cant play (although I wish i could in this case) that orta sir up a hornets nest. (but yes indeed we can all be accused of playing CS at one time or another) :D

Sorry can't promise there'll be no HL, none of the DoD boys would show up.
And I like this Server Query idea, I assume it just scans the network for game servers?? Will it pick up everything or are there some games it doesn't do??

And I say we ban Cycophil unless he at least wears a loin cloth.....

Hmm how about no CS or at leats very little cause I hate owning everyone in such a **** game. Makes me feel lame.

Probley play a little DoD but I'll be there for BF1942 and AA:O and UT 2003.

we land up AVP2(Alien vs Predotor ii) and it was fungen awsome fun it would be even better wit more players. so I say we serv up that and see who chunders..errr says its lame..ung gets fragged alot...hnnn falls over..whatever man.:D

played 8-man AvP2 deathmatch once.. nobody seemed to like the marines much, and aliens were liked... but sadly, one race vs predator isn't pretty... just seems that team balancing in that game isn't quite right... but that's probably just me

You need to use the expansion pack for AvP2, as it gives the marines a few abilities that makes them much nastier, such as the ability to use an exosuit during deathmatch, and place sentry turrets anywhere in the level, It also fixes up the Predators cloak so the bastards a bit easier to see. coporates also get a 360 motion tracker (no more anal raping!!)

Cool, I assume DoD is supported even though it's not on that list. I like the sound of this, if you could bring the projector and server query it would be great.

If anyone wants to start a strategy game they'll just have to stand up and call it out like "Game of Warcraft 3 in 5 mins" and write it on the board manually.

For stuff like that you just flash it on the projector and make lots of big fanfares. :D

I was thinking the main positive point of server query was that it would take care of the list leaving everyone to play games. If you wanna flash RTS games over the projector it'll mean:
A) People will be bugging you to do it whenever they start a game
B) People will be bugging me or Munch to do it whenever they start a game
C) People can do it themselves but it means letting them mess with it.

Server query is good but
a)HLSW is better
b)Use a board and a texta cause it's easier. People never look in SQ an it has issues with not showing server at LANs

just looked at HLSW.. does look better than sq...

I fail to see why a whiteboard is better though. If you project something on a big screen, you get constant updates, plus you should be able to see how many are playing what, etc...

main prob with sq is that it only looks at default ports, so to get it to work proper at lans (where servers are often run on non-standard ports, u have to manually add it to the list anyhoo, hlsw is good, but the games it supports are a little fewer..

all-in-all i reckon sq is good at lans, well, better than hlsw is imo, but, no point project wots in sq when every1 on the lan can open sq themselves and lok on their own screen...

i say pass around SQ and use the board to write up non-sq games, that way covers all bases :D

but projection is good i tells ya.. :)

mainly due to the fact that instead of installing / opening a program, adding the servers that aren't there, then looking around, they could simply look up at the wall instead and see what's going on.. it's the lazy approach

I say if ya gonna have a progector then put it to a better use like showing me raping all teh n00bs in CS an DoD or show pr0n on it

And if we use hlsw does it support all the games likely to be played??

all you'd have to do is put in the servers that aren't using standard ports, and it'll be fine. it's a piece of piss really.

Ok the LAN Of The Damned is officially on, though there has been a change of venue. The details are listed below and feel free to encourage anyone to come. People wishing to attend should e-mail either me (clawcity@beerlover.com.au) or Munch (ferraltool@hotmail.com) with their:

INFORMATION
Date: 19th and 20th of October 2002
Time: 1pm Saturday to 4pm Sunday
Cost: $10 per seat - please bring correct cash as change may not be available.
Venue: The Warrnambool Business Centre (Fletcher Jones), Raglan Parade Warrnambool.
Max people: 30

- If enough people attend then some pizza will be provided.
- There is a snack and drinks machine available downstairs.
- Kitchen facilities are available with urn, fridge, tea, coffee and milk provided.
- Network cables will be provided but please bring your own if possible.

RULES
- Headphones and quiet speakers please - no excess noise.
- Please remember this is a business centre.
- No littering because a bin will be provided.
- Smokers please place all butts in the ashtrays downstairs out the front.
- Everyone please bring powerboards and extention leads.
- Please set your IP addresses to automatic before plugging into the network.

Originally it was just a factory with a garden, but now most of it has been leased out. TAFE uses part for their art department and part of it is the Warrnambool Business Centre, a collection of shops and other small businesses.

I've started a new thread where Munch and I will be posting all the details of the LAN so they can be conveniently found. This is where we will post the map when we have it. Please keep all general discussion of the LAN in the current LAN Of The Damned thread.

No it doesn't reflect the number who have registered to attend, it simply reflects the fact that some of them are too lazy to vote :rolleyes:

We allowed for a maximum of 30 seats, I don't think we could fit anymore comfortably in the room.........unless we suspend them from the ceiling, I might have to keep that idea in mind for the next LAN Of The Damned.......

Anyway, so far we have 25 people registered to attend, as well as a few who can't handle the monstrous implications of the decision and are still holding out for some later sign or omen.

There are also others who will probably just rock up on the day. I must warn anyone thinking of doing this, if we reach our 30 seat maximum, priority will be given to those who registered before hand. So if you show up on the day and get turned away, TOUGH, you should've registered.

Important Note: If you e-mailed us your registration you should get a mail back from us confirming we recieved it. If you haven't recieved this confirmation please contact us.
