View Full Version : Monthly Lanning group

04-09-2002, 07:34 PM
How many ppl in the warrnambool area would be interested in a monthly Lanning event (with about 20 to 30 places). No comps or stuff just a day of Lanning with a minimal cost (b/t 10 an 15 dollars)

The event would run for a day probobly from 9 am Sat to midnight. (about 12 to 14 hours of gameing. Comes in at about $1 an hour) Cost will depend on what deal i can get on a venue. Networking gear will be nothing fancy this would not be a Leeching session. Just a chance to have a decent size Lan every month.

Please post ur comments here.

yeh, i'm up for it, but because of work commitments... every month will be hard, + i think friday nite is better... for us working/school folke sunday is g00d for recovery

Other then dat, it's all good, but where would the venue be that's not a government building -
/me looks evil like at shafted/government

04-09-2002, 07:44 PM
soz, i didn't read it prop... disregard the firday nite thing
i think 9am to 12pm is a fkn g00d idea

04-09-2002, 07:45 PM
because it wouls not be a late event (finishing b4 midnight) there is a chance of getting a cheap school or church hall. But that would mean that it would be a day event not an alnight caffine induced gaming session.

04-09-2002, 09:44 PM
shit that sounds alright id do that, you can use my place every now and again if you want too, like every few months.. you just gotta get the tables

04-09-2002, 10:02 PM
I reckon it's a great idea. I might not be able to show every month but I'll definately show up to some.

05-09-2002, 10:23 AM
Sounds good, but due to work chances are I wouldn't be able to show up more months than I could

05-09-2002, 10:37 AM
I'd be up for that. Could probably talk a few locals into it, as long as I'm driving down.

Of course, if you wanted to drive up here for the day I could arrange room here to use. :)

05-09-2002, 11:12 AM
how about friday then?

05-09-2002, 11:31 AM
friday when? who? what?

05-09-2002, 12:18 PM
shafted 23 at beefy's place, goodo

05-09-2002, 11:02 PM
cool idea. don't think i could come every month but every 2 or 3 for sure. gotta keep the missus happy :).

06-09-2002, 12:55 AM
dont worry, i'm sure we could all take turns in keeping her happy whilst you lan....

j/k

Another Idea is to have a Clan tounament. Say every month 2 clans play off in a number of different games during the weekend (Say a couple of FPS an RTS games) that might go an hour or 2 as part of these monthly LAN. It would be kinda a warrnambool an district Lanning Tounament.

With the number of clans we would have it would mean a clan would have to play about every 3 months. So not a very demanding scheldual.

06-09-2002, 01:35 PM
once again, I could probably get a hamilton clan for that. :D

06-09-2002, 04:15 PM
welcome to the revival of the warrnambool and district computer gaming association

06-09-2002, 04:21 PM
dont worry, i'm sure we could all take turns in keeping her happy whilst you lan....

j/k

LOL. Half you guys wouldn't know what to do and the other half couldn't keep up with her! :P

LOL. Half you guys wouldn't know what to do and the other half couldn't keep up with her! :P

Want to make a bet? :D

06-09-2002, 10:44 PM
all our clan will be in for that we where starting to think why have a clan since there was no compitition around this area... ;)

very nice idea though..1 question..what games can everyone run AAO or UT2003? or will we be forced to cripple are systems with Counter Strike and quake matches that are very outdated and not really much fun anymore

Whats everyone playing out there when there not programming or web designing or whatever..?

07-09-2002, 02:08 AM
kick arse!! HOOHAAA!! although i ahvent tried AA lan style yet i woiuld love to

08-09-2002, 06:05 PM
Whats everyone playing out there when there not programming or web designing or whatever..?

well i dont know about every one else but the main games that [LOTD] play are:Unreal Tornament
MOHAA
Warcraft 3
Quake 3 (when we get really bored)
Diablo2 (dunno what sort a comp ya could make outa that)

yes i kow these games are old but we dont really have systems that can run some of the new fantastic games out there :(
I mean the best graphics card in our clan in a gad damn GF3
( I remember when my gf2 was a good card )

but we are working on it

08-09-2002, 06:07 PM
and hell im in for monthly lanz.

08-09-2002, 11:01 PM
Munch]
Diablo2 (dunno what sort a comp ya could make outa that)

One on one duels perhaps........

09-09-2002, 12:55 AM
what about the clans that dont have fast pc's jump on another clans and war it up..as long as there are two clans with fast pc's it will work....and im quite happy to share my system for the greater gameing good.:D

maybe the ones that lent there systems could coach?

hell if I know but I do know one thing I aint playin those games all night...no offense:D

09-09-2002, 01:18 AM
If the monthly lan wants to run comps why not have a ladder for each game.

we all that there are a group of us that like DoD and there is those of us that dont and as a result of this get our asses kicked every time we play and im sure it goes vise verser.

so i put foward the idea that there is a dod lader, mohaa lader,
and a lader that corresponds to each game played in the comp

i mean it gives a bit of a chance for ppl to relise what clans are good at what games.

sort of a who's who thing if ya know what i mean

09-09-2002, 12:23 PM
yes well that would work if we had enough people to play all those games, but in all honesty, even for a dod comp or mohaa or whatever, there aint enuff to keep a ladder for it going

switch back to the original idea here, the purpose of it being just to gather for a little bit of gaming, almost kinko-style if you must.

the idea of any form of comp or ladder is only a concept to add incentive, so it may or may not be a necessity, but certainly keep the ideas flowing

09-09-2002, 01:09 PM
As long as it's old kinko-style. not that new school kinko style that involves drinking lots and playing DAoC. :)

09-09-2002, 02:31 PM
dun know who the hell kinko is must have been before i was on the whole Lan scene

*sigh* so much killing to be done so little time

09-09-2002, 05:42 PM
As long as it's old kinko-style. not that new school kinko style that involves drinking lots and playing DAoC. :)

never will my life come to that :)

i hope

09-09-2002, 08:06 PM
Isn't that what all your Sat nights consist of??

10-09-2002, 04:02 AM
OK Hows this

MorB run a small monthly lan where on request we can set up servers for Clan wars.

If a clan would like to war then all they have to do is tell us the game an the number of players in the war. We can make sure there is a server for it an even keep some sought of running tally of local clan matches . All we need to know is the name of the game.

Clans organise there members an we will provide a server an a place for it.

I'm still looking at getting a venue here in warrmanbool. I'd also like to hear about venues in Hamilton cause a lan there once in while is not out of the question.

Idealy I'd like 3 phase power at the venue but as long as there are only 20 to 30 players max then as long as there is just good power then that would be ok.

10-09-2002, 09:18 AM
Hamilton venues? Depending on the number of people you've got, I could probably pull some strings and get something here at RMIT. Else we could go for the PAC again, but that'll probably cost a fair bit...

10-09-2002, 04:38 PM
i was gunna say that the PAC was fine like ya's did last time, how much cost we talkin there tho?

10-09-2002, 07:31 PM
dunno.. i'll check it with birdy and see what he says.. plus i'll get some figures on RMIT...

10-09-2002, 11:49 PM
please do so, HamLAN rules

18-09-2002, 10:50 AM
what news on this monthly lan? bieng holidays at the end of the week , be nice to have some lans to go to....
got a small one over in ptland this weekend but one is never enough.

BlackLord you could see about the conferance room in the Warrnambool Business centre..that could hold about 20 ..might be cool for a small lan..

we might be using it for a small 1 ourselves have to check.

and bieng so close to the office wont have to lug 19inch to far..:D

18-09-2002, 11:04 AM
Good question. What are the chances of running something in the holidays? More to the point, if I got something going up here, how many would come?

18-09-2002, 04:05 PM
Very temped to run something here in warrnambool.

Hmm How about someone organise another Dennington LAN. I've thought up a great slogan for it :

"Dennington LAN 'Yes We Have Power and no please don't f*** the Sh33p"

Dennington lan was good but the seats were a little small.

Apparently this forum thinks that ***** (sh33p) is a dirty word. I concluded from this that the program was written in new zealand

18-09-2002, 04:08 PM
i just wanna LAN BF and UT2k3... :)

18-09-2002, 04:09 PM
BF be cool UT2003 be cool too. Ah too many good games not enough LAN time to play them

18-09-2002, 05:21 PM
Dennington lan was good cos i took my own seat :)

I wanna LAN bf1942 up seeing as I bought the damn game...

pretty dissapointing tho - u might like the game, but try looking at it like you paid $80ish for it

18-09-2002, 06:38 PM
yeah go denington lan that was sweet. also ive ben thinking of having another lan sometime during the holidays... but not sure

18-09-2002, 11:26 PM
LOTD is considering a Dennington LAN as we speak. Hopefully we'll be able to give you a yea or nay in the next couple of days.

19-09-2002, 09:24 AM
if you want a venue for 20 dudes then the conferance room in the warrnambool business centre could have a green light for that. all my boss has to do is book it on the weekend and it should be SOLID.
Tables and seats are there but dunno whether ull get 3 phase..
our lan has been cancelled in ptland so where prolly gunna test drive this venu this weekend..considering others to come not sure yet..

yay or nay expected tommorow morn..will post.

19-09-2002, 11:30 PM
Is there any cost involved if we wanted to use it? If so how much?? Any rules or regs we should know about??

20-09-2002, 02:24 PM
still no word on a green light for dis venue, there worried bout the normal thing of piracy and what not...

I should imagine that something will be sighned by all participants in regard to distribution of pirated software, be it burnt or over the network..should be no prob for us legal abiding folk here at the morb forums... :D

21-09-2002, 01:27 AM
Tell them they can't be held responsibe for piracy as long as they don't encourage it (ie: Post a big sign saying "get ur warez here"). Tis a private fuction and therefore the only people that can be held responsib;e for it are the gamers themselves (and to a lesser degree the organisers of the LAN. Just put a NO Piracy sign and ur right. (I'll be just "Backing Up" crap anyway).

21-09-2002, 08:13 PM
I use "back up" copies of nearly all my programs and games, but for the life of me I just can't remember where I put the original CDs which I must have purchased leagally at some stage. :D

23-09-2002, 04:02 PM
Shadowman who can I contact regarding this Business Centre venue??

03-10-2002, 09:24 PM
well this thread started off well but I was wondering if there any more news on the whole monthly lans idea

12-10-2002, 12:33 AM
Hello???? anybody???

08-11-2002, 10:58 PM
I have been looking for a lan party for a while and only just missed the last one. I will be in.............put my name down....just give me a date:)

08-11-2002, 11:10 PM
Bring on the monthly lan party's never been to 1 but would love to be involved both me and butthead have modded our pc's

08-11-2002, 11:33 PM
If you guys are keen to LAN you should keep an eye on the 2 Morb 4 threads that're running at the moment.

09-11-2002, 01:16 AM
if your keen to lan regularly then u r at the right place to know aboot it now..

get a venue and set a date.
just get it going even if its at someones house (depends on numbers)

09-11-2002, 06:36 PM
well i think a regular at the business centre would be good if we can secure that...

10-11-2002, 04:31 PM
wellll depends on howmany ppl read these posts but 4 staters i don think there will b more then 25-30 ppl going untill word of mouth gets going and even then ppl wont b able 2 go every month

but im in

10-11-2002, 06:58 PM
thats y that location is perfect

u can't fit more than 30. i wouldnt expect 25 ppl to want lan every month anyhoo, only me am crazy nuff to do that

12-11-2002, 10:38 AM
weLLLLL this thing should start after MorB and then pick a day of the month and book it like the second sat/sun in every month
coz by looking at the response from this thread they wanna get this thing started

just a question r u going to make ppl register through ausgamers ???

12-11-2002, 12:33 PM
dont think so, i wouldnt want that sorta headache - rather turn up n pray u have a spot..

wanna get morb all official b4 that

13-11-2002, 10:21 AM
only me am crazy nuff to do that

err, u forgot about me..Ill lan with 1hr notice...:)

/me waits for a post to say theres a lan somewhere...:D

14-11-2002, 05:47 PM
Munch and I have secured a room at the Warrnambool Business Centre which we will be setting up as a permanent venue for monthy LANs. It will take us a while to get it set up so we probably won't start hosting LANs until early next year.

14-11-2002, 06:10 PM
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. If there's enough interest I could easily swing something at RMIT here in Hamilton. But half you guys probably wouldn't travel up for it

14-11-2002, 11:09 PM
most of em complain about travelling to brauer for lans!!

and clawman, by secured a room, do you mean u rent an area of the place or u borrow the space regularly?

14-11-2002, 11:32 PM
We will be renting it.

15-11-2002, 10:57 AM
We will be renting it.

what is the estimated cost 4 renting it
or the cost per prerson 4 the entrence fee

15-11-2002, 11:02 PM
All will be revealed in good time.

22-11-2002, 01:53 AM
In order to help us with our planning in regards to balancing costs, how much would everyone be willing to pay for a monthly LAN?? And we want serious replies only guys so no funny buggers.

22-11-2002, 09:27 AM
I'm probably in a different boat to most of the people, cos I have to pay for travelling to get there. After all that though, for a monthly thing I think $10 - $15 is a fair fee to charge, or a yearly membership for $100 or something. :)

22-11-2002, 05:35 PM
We hadn't thought of a yearly membership option, it's a good idea.

25-11-2002, 12:11 AM
C'mon guys, you were all falling over yourselves for a monthly LAN and now that someone's actually organising one you're not paying attention.

25-11-2002, 09:02 AM
Nobody around here could give a rat's a$$ it seems...

26-11-2002, 01:58 AM
Sometimes I wonder why I bother........

26-11-2002, 02:09 AM
i still love you

26-11-2002, 07:12 PM
Hmmm I'm interested

27-11-2002, 01:20 AM
Sks may still love you but I don't. Not after that night with the chicken and the midget siamese twins...
Anyway, I will be supporting any monthly lans i can though i don't know about affording yearly memberships right now. do i get a clan discount? do you take stolen cheques?

27-11-2002, 09:18 AM
Time for another poll I think. find out if people are interested, and how much they'd pay..
