View Full Version : DVD writer problems....
Hey all, I got a technical quetion.
I've been havin problems for ages with Dvd Burners not burning very well.
I can get the burner to burn a dvd 100% but it doesn't play a dvd player.
I changed the burner and upgraded my pc and im still having problems.
If i try and copy/paste the vob files from an already burnt dvd it doesn't copy the whole thing, it comes up with an error.
I got a pioneer 109, and i cant get this thing to work properly, no idea what im doin wrong.
i have burnt heaps of stuff on my old sony drive and that was no worries but between the sony and the pioneer i had a few liteons that didn't work. now the pioneer doesn't work properly so i dunno what to blame...
Any ideas??
Thanks in advance,
Neo__04
does ur dvd player support the + or -R media ur using? are the dvd's ur backing up "protected" in any way? are they dual layer etc?
www.doom9.org
maybe read some tutorials there ;)
na its not a problem like...
Its a brand new Pioneer 109, does everything.
I know how to burn & shrink, no problems there.
Im having trouble with the actual reading of dvd.
I always use dvd decrypter or dvd shrink to do em. But this particular dvd is already been shrunk and is like 3.5 gb.
If i try to copy the vob's to the hard drive it goes for a few minutes, then comes up with read errors..
I done the exact same thing today at work, and it worked like a charm..
I have tried a few different brands of burner and upgraded my computer so it cant be the burner brand or a hardware problem.
Which leads me to believe it may be a Windows xp problem..
might format and go back to xp sp1 and give that a go..
Cheers

for the love of god dont go back to sp1
dont go to sp1
format and put sp2 straight on before u install anything else and hook it into a internet or network connection.
Wot have u tried reading the dvd's on? Have u tried playing them in a dvd player?
i have played the "original" dvd in my tv dvd player and it works fine. if i try and copy that same dvd in a computer it works fine. its like its a jumper/cable, ide problem. i dunno what else to put it down to.
I was having the exact same problem on a liteon burner, so i was gonna take it back, but my new pioneer is doin the same thing. so i grabbed the liteon again, and fully copies the dvd i mentioned to the hard drive with no problems..
WHAT DO I BLAME??
for testing i had the pioneer and liteon burner on the one ide lead and tried to copy the dvd to the hdd from both drives and it worked on the liteon and failed on the pioneer.
If i swap the ide lead between the drives, then the pioneer gets further, doesn't give me an error but just sits there doin nothin
HELP ME PLEASE!!!
There are some movies that contain extra data that screws the burning,
E.g. Ridd!ck has a FATX partition on the end.
(For those who don't know, FATX is the file system the xbox uses, in this case there is a playable demo on the dvd)
Some burners handle it fine, others chuck a major wobbily (my liteon works, my pioneer don't)
Are you trying to do a full backup? or just the movie itself?
(OH AND WHY DOES THE FORUM BLOCK THE WORD RIDD!CK?, what a major Dick!)
i was just trying to copy the vob files to the hard drive.
Its a cheap fishing dvd, doubt it would have protection.
But this dvd is an already burnt one. So Someone has burnt it fine in the past. and it work fine at work, think they are liteon burners.
The thing i dont get is that the liteon didnt work before, now it does and a new pioneer is no good.
Weird
tried a firmware update on the drive? is it region coding related? does the original playback fine on the pc in the pioneer drive?
If you load it into DVD-Decrypter, it will tell you if it is protected. It may not have Macrovision, but could still be encrypted data.
You're best off using it (DVDDecrypter) even if you just want to get vob files, just set your mode to 'File' that way it breaks protection.
Region shouldn't matter, most CSS decrypters will just brute-force a incorrect region. This is especially effective if you havn't set a drive region. (the advantage of two-drives) But some movies won't take to brute force. (I think i've hit 2 total that wouldn't)
I can get the burner to burn a dvd 100% but it doesn't play a dvd player.
I assume you mean it doesn't play ON a dvd player
try burning your disc at a slower speed. for example if you burn at 4x, try 2x. yes it will take longer but from my own experience the slower you burn the more likely you will get a working copy. and also if you really are going to go as far as reinstalling XP try it without any service pack installs and try burning your disc. I guess SP2 can be ruled out as the cause of the problems if it still fails to burn properly, and also what software are you using to burn? do whatever with shrink and save it all as an ISO and burn it off with a different program. damned if i know if all that and what the other guys suggested and it still don't work. maybe a problematic sothbridge chipset on your mobo.
firstly, how many dvds have you tried it on? if you have tried and failed on only one then SLAP!! possible ure dvd player doesn't support burnts, hamz is right tho, cds used to be the same, burn them at a slower speed and u should be right!!
And try different brands of blanks, I have a player that don't like Printco's (pity I bought 600 of the lil shits) and one that only plays MediaCache.
Sometimes some brands just don't like some players.
with the + and - thing how do ya find out which one ya dvd burner uses, i have a dvd burner which i have recently needed to use i bought 2 blank dvds but they didnt work they were TDK DVD-R things, but im not sure if i need to the plus ones how do i know...?
says on the box or in the manual
lookup your manufacturer site and find the drive there it should list the capabilities there, eg, the pioneer can do +,- ,and both in RW as well, but my dvd player (on the tv ) can only take -R media
