View Full Version : Winamp and ShoutCast Title Serving

04-05-2005, 03:27 PM
G'day all,

I'm running a ShoutCast server via Winamp for a regular even and need some help in fine-tuning it.
The clients can listen to the stream no worries, but they can't get the song title (IE: Artist - Title) but they can get the Station ID (ResRadio).

Does anyone know where I might be missing something?

Thanks in advance,

Pottsie

**EDIT** Changed a few details as nessecary

what version of the DSP are you running?

it comes down to 2 things -

depending on the version of the DSP you have (i'm @ work so i wont be able to tell you EXACTLY where it is) but there is a option in the main configuration that says "title" and you have to have that set to auto.

now, that the obvious bit.
for the title to show-up in the listeners winamp - the music (:O illegal factor! ;) ) will need to be played using the winamp you've got open and running the dsp - not another program - not another winamp.

its a pretty simple thing to make happen so if its not working then u've got some higher issues then can be explained in a forum i'd say.

ps if it is _that_ urgent check you PM for mobile number

G'day,

The moments kinda come 'n gone, but it all went well enough
Had 15 people listening in, though no titles, still got them jumping around though - Good pre-cursor to a huge night out.

I'm running version 1.8.2b of the ShoutCast source with 2.91 of Winamp and 1.9.2 of the ShoutCast server.

Had what I thought was all of the nessecary options ticked but to no avail, can't get the song title through the admin html section (Badly worded but ya get where I'm coming from?) and neither do the clients.

Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

Cheers,

Pottsie

G'day all,

Thanks for you help so far, though I'm going to annoy you all by letting yas know that it still isn't working, even with the latest versions of the server, shoutcast source and winamp combined.

I've got the weekend ahead of me, but I can't for the life of me see where the problem is.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Pottsie

I'd be checking my Meta Settings

'use_meta_data 1' or summin similar

http://www.gigamonkeys.com/book/practical-a-shoutcast-server.html

You could move over to 'IceCast'

(and reffering to DeltA-FoRcE's comment 'we all use windows' speak 4 yourself - Mandrake 10 thanks)

i should have asked before -
what version of winamp are you running.

the shoutcast dsp DOES NOT work on anything higer then 2.9 (or what ever it is)

WILL NOT work properly with v3.0+

G'day all,

Its FINALLY bloody working!

Gemdog - Thanks for the link - interesting reading that will eventually help.

Delta-Force - Was originally using 2.91, though moved to 5.09 and the DSP is working well with the latest version.

As it turns out, I'm not entirely sure how I did it (Was 2:30am when it started working... blehhh) but will go through sometime and double-check.

Thanks for your help

Cheers,

Pottsie
