I am using RHL 7.3, Actiontec 56K PCI modem, and MSN internet acess with what i belive to be PAP authentication. Mu modem isnt currently confugured, but i can do that my self. My problem is that MSN will not accept my authentification. I cna dial out, and get acarrier signal, but i can not connect. Probably because of Micro$ofts propritary ISP. Is there any known work arround for this. Or anything I can do to get on the internet without switching ISPs?

hmmm, it probably is something to do with MSN's setup. though i cannot say for sure. all i can suggest is maybe try usig a friend's ISP account and see if you can successfully authenticate with it. if I know MSN like i do they are probably like AOL and use non standard shit. do you get any error messages at all after trying to log in? last night i tried to login to my ISP and my connection was repeadly dropped, after spending an hour looking around i found that 2-way authentication somehow was enabled - weird.
but anyways if you can - get a 2nd opinion - there is probably nothing wrong with your setup at all, i hear most linux users have more trouble gettin a dial tone than things like authentication errors. Silencer is pretty much the only other linux user i know of on this forum. he maight know more than i do on this topic so we'll see if he has anything to say

If MSN uses a proprietry software program under windows to assist login etc, then you're basically screwed unless you can find a linux alternative (http://www.google.com/linux)

other than that, just make sure that any settings you've made under linux match those under windows (log on to network or not etc)

also, as haMz said, check with a standard PPP PAP or CHAP ISP dial-in to make sure your modem is working as it should :)
