View Full Version : Trying to find an updated BIOS for an old mobo

I've been searching the net for the past week now, trying desperately to find an updated bios for an old crappy mobo.

The mobo is an Azza PT-5IW, which uses the Intel i430FX chipset.

I need an updated BIOS, due to the fact that this mobo doesn't seem to recognise when an optical drive has been added to the system. I have tried about three different CD drives, a 4X, a 32X, and a 40X, but it won't pick up any of them.

I tried going to the official website where the BIOSes for this mobo are meant to be located, but the website doesnt seem to exist.

So, does anybody know of a website that maybe has BIOSes for old motherboards, or something?? I have tried websites like BIOS-drivers, and driver-guide, and I didn't find anything for my particular mobo.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

being as horribly old-school as it is. i doubt they even MADE a bios update.

They probably didn't even make BIOSes then, it's just a little box with a gnome trapped inside

Actually, I managed to find a BIOS update for it after all.

Still runs like shit though. Although, it now actually detects optical drives, and can detect a HDD up to 137Gb. I tested it with an 80Gb drive, and it works, pity that it runs in PIO-Mode 3 or something.

a mobo with an i430 chipset aint guna support even udma id think dale, let alone ata 66 :D it is a board designed for socket 7 (?) cpus

im not surprised that u cant get an update for breaking the 137gb barrier on an old thing like that :D

whered u source the update? i had a quick search for you and couldnt find anything for it on azza's site so i gave up

It took me a while, after searching fruitlessly across the net. As it happens, I kinda found it by mistake.

I had accidentally typed the model # of the board backwards in Google. Instead of 5-IW, I had typed 5-WI, and then I got a few more matches.

There used to be this company called Mr Bios, and they used to do their own BIOS updates. Luckily, they had done one for my old mobo. Couldnt get it off the Mr Bios website though. They had been bought out by another company, who now supposedly charges quite a bit of money if you want to update your BIOS. Something like $20 US. Could even be more. Too lazy to check it out.

Anyhow, I found a copy of my BIOS that Mr BIOS had done, on some website (cant remember which one), downloaded it, flashed the BIOS on the mobo, and that was that. End of story.
