View Full Version : PortLANd (MorB 3.5?)

13-07-2002, 10:24 PM
Skullshot suggested that I beef up the local scene here in Portland (100Km/1 hour from Warrnambool, little less from Hamilton) to a larger, more serious event (one that requires more than an 8-port hub :D), a mini-MorB.

Skullshot intends to bring 1 or 2 carloads over from Warrny, so at this stage I'm after expressions of interest from the rest of the MorB community (to get some idea of how many people I need to cater for) - would anyone else be interested in attending? and what time would suit? At the moment I'm looking at middle/late Term 3 or the next school holidays...

any takers?

Clan matches - depends on how many clans show up and/or if enough people team up to form temporary ones...

p.s. check your PM

wiz has spilled the beans!!

so yeah work has begun on MorB 3.5 Wiz is doin alot of the nitty-gritty for this one, but I think we will be trying to keep the numbers to a dull-roar, and it will be without the trimmings, ie. no comps, just games and plug-n-play lanning :)

14-07-2002, 01:23 PM
if it's just a plug and play, i'm in.. probably bring a few guys down from ham with me...

14-07-2002, 08:32 PM
looks like we'll have a limit of around 35-40 people with the Portlanders obviously taking precedence as opposed to us out-of-towners :)

Wiz is working hard to keep all costs to non-existant so that there can be no entry fee

we'll see how we go

lets start tossing some possible dates around, I'll open the bidding with a suggestion of it being on a saturday thru til a sunday arvo :)

PortLANd soundz great. I just reckon we have a straight LAN with no compz as it eatz 2 much time. I reckon u will have no troubz getting the peepz cauz just found out about it yesterday and already organised 1 car load 2 come ova. I suggest having the lan b4 skool holidayz so it freez up holidayz for other lans (plus i cant wait that fuken long). Great Idea!:D

16-07-2002, 08:47 PM
ok, i've pulled some 'moderator hocus pocus' and created a poll, feel free to indicate all the dates that your presence is possible for this event (i.e. multiple checkboxes). This will greatly assist in the planning for PortLANd.

p.s. I've left August 17th and September 7th out because of DJ obligations and Shafted LAN #23.

16-07-2002, 09:00 PM
u know that i'll be there

16-07-2002, 11:26 PM
i am too easy to get to a LAN :)

16-07-2002, 11:59 PM
What's that Skullshot you're easy? Too easy infact? What exaxtly are you admiting to here???

I'm sorry, but I couldn't help myself................

17-07-2002, 01:02 AM

Dude I'd have to sell my kidney.........both probably

17-07-2002, 03:01 AM
Hell Im in for a lan at portland, and I'm almost certain that i could talk a couple of LOTD boyz into coming aswell i think they forget that i have a stationwagon. (lots o room for computers ) and as a result think it would be kinda expensive to get there, on a carpool it would only cost 5 bucks extra in fuel to get there, and back

not mentioning any one (CLAWCITY) :D

if not I'll think about grabbing a few ppl that wish to go but dont have a ride :D

17-07-2002, 06:22 PM
$5 for fuel!! I'm definately selling both kidneys then............

20-07-2002, 01:55 PM
i might be able to go
not sure yet tho

22-07-2002, 01:14 PM

22-07-2002, 04:06 PM

23-07-2002, 02:56 AM
id be in that.. can also take ppl down if required although can prolly only fit 1 person with pc gear in the ss

ok guys, time for an update... I've pretty much scrapped the poll, it wasn't a great indicator anyway, I should've made it "indicate the dates when you can't attend".

I've approached the respective authority about hiring out my proposed venue for the weekend, however I'm not at liberty to reveal which venue that is until I confirm it. The prospective hirer told me the only time it will be available for a weekend-long hire would be August 24th-25th, that suits me so I'm gonna run with that now unless there are any major objections or conflicts...

If I score this place, the gamefloor will be absolutely huge with a roomy kitchen/lounge (maybe a XBOX or PS/2 on the TV), a crashroom and toilet(s) out back.

I must also mention that it looks like I will have some small fees associated with this event, but once that's spread out amongst LAN-goers it'll probably only equate to around $5 ea. (sorry Clawcity).

I wonder how much a good pancreas will get these days........

hrmmm, my uncle needs one of those, check ur PM :D

04-08-2002, 05:16 PM
So are you saying that the entry fee will be $5 or is that gona be a extra cost on top of the entry fee??????

04-08-2002, 11:36 PM
the estimated door costs are based on lower overheads, it may cost anything from $5-20

13-08-2002, 04:35 PM
Helloooooooooo.........is there any more neeeeeeeeeeeews

18-08-2002, 01:04 PM
Sorry about not answering them post guys, I ain't been receiving e-mails from the forums server when replies are posted...

Hrmmm, where it stands now... The venue I had hoped for is gonna cost an awful lot more to hire than I'd first thought, it would've been convenient because it meant I could use their networking equipment (Cisco's with Etherchannel support), but they're not insured off the premises.

So at the moment; I'm still investigating venue's (price/facilities/proximity to CBD) and negotiating for network equipment from elsewhere.

Also, the date will be moved forward; August 24th-25th is PSC snow trip (we lose a lot of key locals) and August 31st I'm DJing an After-Deb party, it might be as late as the school holidays yet.

18-08-2002, 05:52 PM
sept 21-22 sounds real good...

18-08-2002, 06:21 PM
isn't that s23?

19-08-2002, 09:28 AM

19-08-2002, 05:06 PM
...hmmm ok

23-08-2002, 11:18 PM
 i'm not going to portland there i have stated my belief

01-09-2002, 06:49 PM
So what happened to Portland?? Was it nuked off the map by foreign terrorists or something???

01-09-2002, 08:56 PM
yeah sorry guys.

i've kinda been procrastinating organising an alternate venue in the midst of all these 18th's and Deb-parties i've been DJing.

atm, i'm looking at the school holidays, which means I'm gettting a move on to organise the venue with adequate time to inform all.

Keep you posted of any *successes*
