View Full Version : Gives me the bloody irrites
Basicly im running Claws old parts (1700 + GF4) and for the most part it works fairly well, but for some reason unbeknowenst to me, when you have been playing a game (KOTOR, THUG2, Warcraft) for about an hour or so, the speakers make a high pitched rapid beeping alarm sound and the whole system just freezes and you just have to shut down.
Ive tried various games, like the ones mentioned above, and ive checked all the tempratures, uninstalled and re-installed the lot, but the damn problem persists.
What are you using to monitor temps?
checking them in the bios on the reboot and cpu cool
Get Motherboard Monitor...
Google will find it for you..
and make sure the CPU has some thermal paste on it.. not too much..
When you boot back into Windows did you recieve the message "This system has recovered from a serious error"??
I was getting that one for a while, but I'm pretty sure that it had to do with my video card drivers. Yeah, playing some games for a while, the whole PC would just freeze, and I'd have to reboot.
Or sometimes I would get some kind of error message, something about VPU something or other. It's been a while since I ever got one of these messages, so I can't remember it word for word.
I have a Sapphire ATI Radeon 9800xt. I'm using the latest omega drivers, and haven't had one single problem in ages.
All I can suggest is u get all updated drivers for mobo, vid card, etc. But u probably already do.
yea. sks does that to me after about an hour...
lol...ok...
probably video, mebbe heat but more likely video. either bad drivers or IRQ probs.
my 2c
Yeah I now think it's a video problem as well. I have tried different drivers, checked any conflicting IRQ problems and changed back to my GF2 mx400. What I have managed to achieve thus far is that now games are running with no lock ups, but I had to go into the bios and drop the AGP down to 32M from 64M and thats with my old card (the GF2)
If I run the GF2 at 64 she locks, if i put the GF4 in at either 32M or 64M she locks. I am able to actually run stuff now (mainly so I can assist Claw in his map testing) so im flogging THUG2 but the solution still escapes me. It is a video problem, its not heat, im pretty sure its not the drivers and im hesitant about calling it the hardware. As I said before it's just Claw's old stuff so I know it works.
I don't know stuff all about how to fix it, so its probably something stupid that i've over looked, but buggered if I know what it is.
a minor point how much is different in the thing to when claw ran it gilli????
my 2c!
The only thing different would be the network card and lack of a modem card.
did it work when claw gave it to you :O
Hey Gilligan,
what chipset does your mobo use? Is it NVidia, SIS, VIA??
Whichever one it is, you should try installing updated chipset drivers, if you havent already.
Usually with the chipset drivers, there's some AGP driver thingy, you could always give it a go and see if it works.
I know how frustrating this whole thing is. I've had these things happen to me quite a few times.
Anyhow, good luck with it mate.
is this the ecs mobo..... ecs k7s5a????
if so, I've heard nuttin but bad things from this mobo. I had one and it put me though hell. But if claw had it workin fine for him, try eliminating possible problems. ect, change video cards to see if it removes probs (like you already have done). Get latest gart drivers (agp drivers). Update bios might even be an idea. theres plenty of things to try.
