View Full Version : Game; Halo 2
This game has improved enough on the original to be playable, even in french. Double weapons, better looking everything, playing as the covenant with a nifty cloak, all that stuff is awesome.
Even though Halo 2 looks good on the Xbox i can wait for the PC release before getting into the multiplayer, First person shooters are allways better with a keyboard and mouse.
so you played the french leak?
I'm not that impressest with it. Console + FPS seems just a bad idea to me. FPS belongs on the PC with rts, let consoles have fighting & racing.
Should have stuck with beefy's advice an not DL'ed it
Yes, you should listen. :) It was probably worth checking out though, just to make sure I was right.
Best comment I've heard so far (paraphrased) -
"If you like Halo, you'll like this. If you started playing Halo, but didn't finish it due to lack of interest, you're better off finishing the 1st one. If you didn't like the 1st one, don't play Halo 2."
It's just more of a same, with things tweaked a little more.
I like Halop 2, the game play has improved a lot from the 1st. But i have to admit that i like the levels and missions in the first one a lot better than this one.
As much as i hate to discuss the planetary debarcle that is Halo 2, is has to be said.
After cautiously borrowing it from a friend so i could guage it's worth, i quickly realised it was soon to join a list of games that had me draped in severe melancholy throughout 04.
It has now joined the ranks of crystal chronicles, wind waker, devil may cry 2 and numerous other titles as being a severe let down.
There are many things about Halo 2 which, if given thought just don't seem to add up.
Namely, the rectification of the pistol. Apparently it was deemed too powerful, and as you probably realised if you sucked using it you didn't have much chance up against anyone who could, despite the plethora of other weapons you had to choose from.
So they weakened it, to what feels like 100 times less powerful, and in Halo 2 unless your weilding 3 of them simultaneously (which i realise is impossible), it's not a combination you'd opt for.
Secondly, the rocket launcher was enhanced and made heat seeking. Now any logical minded person, and even the thickest i suspect, would have some vague comprehension as to the magnitude of a rocket launchers power.
And anyone who's ever been blown sky high by a fellow gamer weilding a rocket launcher can testify to the validity of that statement. Decrease the pistols power and accuracy and enhance the rocket launcher, makes sense right... well no it doesn't actually.
Another thing that grated was the introduction of an energy sword with the capacity to deal out 'one hit kills'. And whilst not being your average everyday sword it also has an incredible amount of reach on it. Fair enough you have to be in range to slaughter, but there's no arguement that it's power in close combat in unrivaled.
The ghosts have been turned into little more than bumbling scooters, no longer able to glide up and over things. In fact, when it turns over you half expect to see the pilots feet hanging out the bottom peddling it Fred Flinstone style.
Also anyone who's tried playing multiplayer with 3 or more people on a 60cm screen or less will notice that due to the amount of detail and crud in maps now, you have to contend with the giant rotating windmill for space.
There's nothing like walking around the house all afternoon with chinese eyes because you've been squinting like a 90 year old with no glasses all morning.
I've many more gripes about this game but quite frankly it's just another one of those over hyped, under scrutinized pieces of hogwash designed to create money for someone, somewhere.
Whilst i can't scrutinize the single player too much, i should mention i did find it seizure inducing and was considering the liklihood of whether being in comer would be more entertaining. In short the pro's don't nearly account for the con's, and smarter AI will never be enough to compensate for the lack lustre hoo-har i was treated to when i had my first, second and last encounter with Halo 2.
As for FPS's on consoles, i'm not going to touch on that bought-up-too-often arguement. But i will say, Metroid Prime on GC, Perfecttt.
whatever your said was wrong, maybe not incorrect but there was still something fundamentally wrong with it.
You should not worry about balance in a game you played twice.
You should not ever use the phrase "lack lustre hoo-har " if there is any way of avoiding it.
And whilst i may have broken 80% of the journalists code of ethics in a few paragraphs, this is a forum, and whatever allegiance you think you owe to preserving the integrity of a game... has no place here.
So try to take these things with a grain of salt and if you can help it, remember that this isn't Gamespot or IGN and forum members don't have to worry about stepping on fan boys toes. Afterall isn't that what partly makes forums so damn entertaining.
So while I appreciate your would be advice, or whatever you considered that last paragraph to be;
The comments i made are justified by 20 hours of play, which IMO is more then enough to guage the games worth or potential worth. And although i hate to point this insignificant little fact out to you, "first, second, and last time i played this game" - refers to the first second and last time, being 3 times (not 2).
If you analysed Halo 2 as well as you did the paragraph i wrote, it's no wonder you're struggling with coming to grips with my point of view. But lets not make things personal.
I don't know about you but when i sit down to pay a game, i don't tinker with it for a few minutes and then put it away for a rainy day. I marathon it, whether it be all day, all night or all week, i make sure that i know all there is to know about the thing.
As for "Lack Lustre Hoo-Har", and not using it when it can be avoided - the use of that phrase in any circumstance should be avoidable. I chose to use it because it genuinely depicts how i feel about the the game overall.
Of course there are a number of other derogatory phrases i could have used in it's place, but i won't mention them lest i inspire you to post a miriad of comments on the do's and dont's of expressing ones opinion.
Although it strikes me as a bit strange that you singled out "lack lustre hoo-har", if i could be bothered with rating my own opinion i'd have opted to mention "over hyped, under scrutinized piece of hogwash" - but i guess it all comes down to opinion. And far be it from me, to judge yours.
"whatever your said was wrong, maybe not incorrect but there was still something fundamentally wrong with it.- Mojo-mojo - "
Forgive me for finding this amusing but telling me that my opinion is not necessarily incorrect just fundamentally wrong is one perplexing statement.
I can see it up there with the likes of 'i know there's something wrong with it, i just don't know what!'.
Meanwhile, life goes on and people are busy worrying about the things that matter! Mind if i do too?
ah, retort...
all i meant was your opinion was ok, the way you said it was weird and a little too wordy. In my experience lanners mainly use the english language to yell insults and dont use a dictionary unless they run out of material, you can only call someone a camping whore or a butt muncher so many times before it gets old.
im not going to read another post longer that a page, ever.
I was trying to be diplomatic. I'm not given to profanity so i'll never fit in, in that sense. Call it a predominantly female thing, who knows.
I just prefer to exercise some self control. I'm not exactly a public lanner as i don't like the atmosphere. Although i can't comment on MORB Lans as i've not attended one, in past times i've found most Lan atmosphere's to be somewhat hostile. The language in game and out is hostile and the main focus seems to be on shooting the loser in the head and letting them know how much they suck.
It doesn't appeal to me just as standing in a cage of male gorillas beating their hairy chests doesn't (no offence). This seems to be the only local forum remotely PC/Game related, so here i am.
HeHe at beefies picture. Where do you find these wonderful things *sigh*
This seems to be the only local forum remotely PC/Game related, so here i am.
and your presence and input is welcome and appciated - hell no-one else is posting in the review forums with something half-decent to read...
Well i think i've posted my last review, heh. The lack of interest in console games is more then apparent.
I don't know what the mass consensus is on anime, and with the amount of people posting on this forum i think i'd have to wait 5 years to find out.
I also have a problem with keeping things short and sweet and judging by the reaction several paragraphs gets there's not much point. I just can't bring myself to do things half-arsed!
:D unfortuntly in the way of intelligent conversation - these old forums fall by the way side these days.
Start a converstion with beefy you might find something more entertaining within that.
I don't think there's anything necessarily wrong with the way the forum is. I just need something more substantial and i hardly expect anyone to accommodate that.
I've managed to find a few decent things about the place, in amongst smut involving your mother.
ahahaha. welcome to morb.
She does make a good breakfast though.
haha! I like her already.
Post whatever you like and ignore the fools. Welcome to Morb.
Indeed this is someone I could warm to. Though your experience of LANing in the past seems to have left you feeling somewhat soiled, please feel free to drop into LANOTD IX and say g'day. Perhaps you'll find it interesting...or at least mildly entertaining.
but you dont want to tait the image of lans for ever now do we....
I can't see myself taking you up on the offer this time, but thanks all the same. I relish the comfort of my own card board box a little too much.
As for tainting the image... your presence alone should do the trick Damo :P
Halo 2 is basically halo with some added features which is fine in my books if its not broke don't fix it.
Only thing that bothered me was that some of the battles were to big and i found myself just trying to get through the level instead of chasing down every foe. But a mighty fine entry into the halo family.
yea, i remember as the master cheif running into a room with some weird aliens trying to kill me as other weird aliens bust in trying to kill everyone. They were all yelling something in french so i only killed what i had to and got the hell out of there.
Thats not a problem with the game, its just like if you choose to use stealth in far cry or rush through half life 2 instead of throwing bottles at things for hours.
ummm, i dont really agree, the only times i would use stealth would be to buy time whilst reloading, or to take cover. the thing is, its a war game, not like hl or farcry, they are different games in genre
