G'day all,

Having picked up the parts for a relatively new computer setup from Beefy a couple of months ago, things have been great so far, but there's been a question thats been hiding in the background - How hot should it run at, and how far can the temperature climb before the s**t hits the fan?

Mostly the CPU temps are around 30-40c but have been as high as 65 (Last night, shut it down the second I saw it) and the system temps are between 24-35c (But last night hit 47).

Is there any cause for concern? And if so, what products wuld you guys recommend that I stick in there to keep things running cool?

Thanks in advance,

Pottsie

65 is a little high.. Have you got any case fans for that case? Get some air flowing through the case (in the front, out the back) and it'll make a difference.... Otherwise, a new HSF would work a treat.

Reseat your CPU heatsink and make sure there is a REALLY thin layer of thermal shit... its only used to make sure the CPU is touching the Heatsink.. not to absorb heat..

and make sure you do what beefy said.. get inlet/outlet fans..

but if your not overclocking there shouldnt be any need for a new heatsink/fan...

Ohh.. make sure its not sitting next to anything that would heat it up.. (heater)

65 isn't that hot...... sure it would be nicer for it to run cooler...... but from much research I have done myself (I was worrying bout heat in my comp a while back), it seems that the amd chips are able to work fine under hot conditions. If its running at 65 under a full load (eg. a game, benchmark or whatnot) then I wouldn't really be overly worried, rarther just cautious. be aware of the temp, but don't be overly worried. I've seen alot of information stating that if its running over 80 then theres good reason to be worrying, but if its not to just be cautious. If you are wanting to cool it down anyway, I recomend what beefy said, look at picking up some fans for the case. If theres already some fans there, have a look at here (http://www.pccasegear.com/category85_1.htm) theres some nice heatsink fans here if your interested ;). this is the one Im using atm, its a real nice one (http://www.pccasegear.com/prod1337.htm)

30 is optimal running temp - i'd be worried with anything over 50 on a moderatly warm day.

G'day Fellas,

Thanks for the info and replies so far.

Beefy, Applemac - Thanks for the suggestions, I'll look into picking up a fan or two in the near future, give 'em a run

General - The cooler it runs, the better as far as I'm concerned (To a certain point though - don't want it all to freeze-over on me)
I've had a look through those site pages you suggested, and now it seems only a matter of time before I end up with some fancy-looking thing stuck in the case

Delta-Force - You reckon 30 is optimal? How about 35-45? Would it have any impact on the performance, or just be a pathway to it getting hotter still?

Thanks again fellas,

Cheers,

Pottsie

30 is great, if it sits on that.. OVERCLOCK IT!! but otherwise.. just try and stay below about 50 like delta said...
