Well I went and caught the first screening of Spiderman 2 the other day with a mate. The movie was great. A little heavy on story compared to the last one, which I liked; it gave us more insight into the characters in this movie. We get to see a more developed Spidey, feeling more comfortable in his powers than in the last movie.

The character of Peter Parker is getting more and more complicated as the movies progress. Peter realizes that his powers weigh on him more than he though that they would, meaning that he has to give up what he wants the most to help those around him. The relationship between Peter and M.J takes many turns in the movie from bad to worse to better and then to really bad. As peter struggles with his identities his promises turn to lies as Spiderman and helping strangers comes first. Finally Peter decides to give up on crime fighting and thoughts away the red and blues suit that many have come to love, only to have a small child remind him of what he was missing and what he meant to everyone in New York.

With the arrival of a new villain for Spiderman to combat he must first start believing in himself, his powers, and those around him.

Doc Ock, as J.J Jameson has dubbed him, was a creation of his own experiment, trying to create an endless source of power that would win him the Noble prize. Using one of his creations, a set of mechanical arms controlled by his thoughts he tried to control the fusion reaction, the reaction became unstable killing Dr. Otto Octavius's wife and binding him to the metallic arms. The arms carrying a highly advanced artificial intelligence took of his body while he was in a coma killing many Doctors that where trying to free Dr. Octavious from his creation. The arms slowly took over control of Dr Octavious's mind sending him insane. Now working for Harry Osborne, Doc Ock goes after Spiderman, using Merry Jane as bait. Loosing the fight, Doc Ock takes Spiderman to meet his fate at the hands of Harry, the son of Norman Osborne, who was killed by Spiderman as the Green Goblin.

The characters in Spiderman 2 were cast very well by Dianne Crittenden. Bringing Alfred Molina in as Doc Ock. The on screen chemistry between Tobey Maguire and Alfred was great, you could feel the tension between them when they were fighting as Spiderman and Doc Ock, and there was a kind of awe that went over the audience as we were sucked in as they were talking as scientist and student.

I give this movie and 8½ of 10
Oh yeah and keep and eye out for Stan Lee pulling someone to safety

I just saw this the other day. I loved the fight scenes between Spiderman and Dr Octopus, much better than those with the Green Goblin. Dr Octopus' artificial arms were done really well too, though obviously computer generated you couldn't really tell they weren't real.

My only gripe is that by the end of the movie half the bloody city had seen Spidey unmasked...but apparently that's ok....

Just one correction Kamakazi, it was Harry who wanted Octavius to win the Nobel Prize (good for business) not the good doctor. He was simply trying to finish his life long quest for the good of mankind.

And did anyone get the feeling Hobgoblin might be showing up in the next moive?

thanx for that correction there clawcity.

Yeah i got the feeling that the green goblin 2 might be showing up next movie. I'm hoping not cos there are soo many other villians that h8 spiderman that would be a much better choice and it would also seem like the same thing again if the went with the green goblin 2.

the hobgoblin is Roderick Kingsley, in the comics not Harry. And there are 2 generations of green goblin they better not go through all 3 of them

Mysterio would be a good choice for a villian in the next spiderman movie which is due in theaters in May of 2007

I always get confused where Hobgoblin fits in....
I wanna see Spidey go up against The Rhino!!!

its fucken awsome! i love it.

I would love them to bring in Venom and even Carnage. That would be awsome, although it may be a little heavy on the CGI. -and the bloody slaughter in Carnage's case.

yeah i think they might wanna keep it M15+ not R
but seeing Spidey go head to head with Rhino would be good but it wouldnt last long cos Rhino is one of the dumbest villians out there. Spiderman would just make some lame as remarks as hes tying him up in web and dropping him off at the police station

07-07-2004, 02:05 PM
it wouldnt be spiderman without them...

I reckon Rhino would put up more of a fight than you think Kamakazi. His skin is practically invulnerable and he'd easily be strong enough to break Spidey's webbing.

Finally got around to watching it. Very impressive. I like how they didn't rely on action as much in this and really devled into the personal side of it all. Worked out well. ;)

yeah Rhino is very strong but his strenght is still out weighed by his stupidity in all the comics that i have seen it hasnt taken long for spiderman to take him down.

Now Sandman that would be a good fight to see, but the movie would be more action then story which isnt all bad but some would have liked the sotry element of spiderman 2 more than the action parts. so there might not be as many people going to the cinemas to see it
