Well I went and caught the first screening of Spiderman 2 the other day with a mate. The movie was great. A little heavy on story compared to the last one, which I liked; it gave us more insight into the characters in this movie. We get to see a more developed Spidey, feeling more comfortable in his powers than in the last movie.
The character of Peter Parker is getting more and more complicated as the movies progress. Peter realizes that his powers weigh on him more than he though that they would, meaning that he has to give up what he wants the most to help those around him. The relationship between Peter and M.J takes many turns in the movie from bad to worse to better and then to really bad. As peter struggles with his identities his promises turn to lies as Spiderman and helping strangers comes first. Finally Peter decides to give up on crime fighting and thoughts away the red and blues suit that many have come to love, only to have a small child remind him of what he was missing and what he meant to everyone in New York.
With the arrival of a new villain for Spiderman to combat he must first start believing in himself, his powers, and those around him.
Doc Ock, as J.J Jameson has dubbed him, was a creation of his own experiment, trying to create an endless source of power that would win him the Noble prize. Using one of his creations, a set of mechanical arms controlled by his thoughts he tried to control the fusion reaction, the reaction became unstable killing Dr. Otto Octavius's wife and binding him to the metallic arms. The arms carrying a highly advanced artificial intelligence took of his body while he was in a coma killing many Doctors that where trying to free Dr. Octavious from his creation. The arms slowly took over control of Dr Octavious's mind sending him insane. Now working for Harry Osborne, Doc Ock goes after Spiderman, using Merry Jane as bait. Loosing the fight, Doc Ock takes Spiderman to meet his fate at the hands of Harry, the son of Norman Osborne, who was killed by Spiderman as the Green Goblin.
The characters in Spiderman 2 were cast very well by Dianne Crittenden. Bringing Alfred Molina in as Doc Ock. The on screen chemistry between Tobey Maguire and Alfred was great, you could feel the tension between them when they were fighting as Spiderman and Doc Ock, and there was a kind of awe that went over the audience as we were sucked in as they were talking as scientist and student.
I give this movie and 8½ of 10
Oh yeah and keep and eye out for Stan Lee pulling someone to safety
