Wolfenstien 3D
This game arguably revolutionized the approach towards games today. It was basically solely responsible for starting a whole new genre of gaming that has gone on to be the most popular form of computer gaming today.
You would probably find that most serious gamers at least own a shareware copy on 3¼? floppy, I know I do.
I was playing Manhunt the other day and was left deeply changed by the experience, and the only thing I can really attune it to, was the feeling I felt when I first played Wolfenstien 3D. After all, Manhunt probably would have been made by someone eventually, but this time around it had some help and that was from such games as this one.
I can?t speak for everybody else, but for me Wolfenstien 3D was probably the first game I played on pc where shit died, it died often, it died bloody, and sometimes they made cute little noises. The experience was made even better by the fact that I could actually tell what it was I was shooting at and what I saw I was shooting at was Nazi?s! Let?s face it, we all hate Nazi?s, even Indiana Jones hates Nazi?s. There is just a certain something about blowing Adolf Hitler away.
From this came phenomenal hours of game and a new found level of anger and frustration at not being able to complete a certain mission. It was also made more enjoyable by the fact that it was simple, no problems, no confusion and if you ran out of ammo, you held down the keys ?L? ?M? & ?I? and the world was full of the joyous sound of the mini gun (that granted, did sound like a metal bin being hit real quick with a stiff midget). Really, how easy is it to hold down just three certain keys, I mean we are all so used to it by now. Lol*
Wolfenstien 3D has in my view achieved its own cult like status among gamers (well, we love laughing about it anyway)
Below is a link I found to a still active Wolfenstien 3D site. The site contains news stories, downloads (you would not believe how many there are), character bio?s and links to various other Wolfenstien dedicated sites. They even have their own web ring.

*NOTE: Clawcity didn?t get it either haha
