Desktop Icons

My Windows desktop icons appear to be possessed by some lesser demon trickster. I change the icon and rename the shortcut, all is well. But when I have the audacity to reboot my computer I find all the default icons and names have returned!!!
Who is this demon trickster and how do I banish it from my PC???

And no haMz, I doubt it is Bill Gates. I did say "lesser demon".

niice, duno if u mean u rename My Computer and stuff like that i never bother so i cant really help much.. unless u mean normal shortcuts like "shortcut to My Pron Folder" ?

I would think that cementing those names in place by HaXor-ing the registry would do the trick.

usually, ya dont need to do that but an easy way would be using tweakui, mind u, why woulda ya bother?

Nice one Abdul, that page certainly had the answer. Now I can have my weird icons!!!

Instead of making people read the whole thing, here's the part that fixed it for me:

Start -> Run -> Regedit

Navigate to:
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\Clsid"
Right-click the folder icon for this key & select 'Permissions'

Click 'Advanced' -> click 'Add' -> type "System" -> click 'OK'

Put a check in the 'Deny' column for the 'Set Value' permission.

'OK' your way out.
