Setting IP as automated

On the list for LAN of the Damned it states all IPs should be set as automated. I don't understand. I'm also cautious about my hard drive. How do I set it so that only a few selected folders can be accessed by other computers connected to the LAN? Is there anything else I should note before I arrive?

Step 1: Disable all shares.
Step 2: Set your IP address to 'Obtain IP address automatically'
Step 3: .....
Step 4: PROFIT!

OK, I've checked the file sharing stuff out, I'm secure with that. I briefly understand the automatically obtain IP address mumbo jumbo, but I don't know how to alter those settings.

Where abouts do I go to set my IP address to "Obtain IP address automatically"?
