View Full Version : MorB 6 = Your opinion
Following up the lan with the usual "what'd u think" thread
I'll do a lil wrirte up of my own on M6 later when im not at work maybe ;)
For now, just rate morb from 1-5 (5 being the bestest ever) any suggestions as to how things could be done better, post them here.
i'll apologise in advance for the UT comp, i pwned it, and axol shouldnt have been allowed play ;) heh, seriously tho, it ran a lil late, mainly coz ppl were asleep, and while they were sleppin, the others racked off!
post/vote now!
i'll apologise in advance for the UT comp, i pwned it, and axol shouldnt have been allowed play ;)!
In which case I would have been the winnah! Gimme that trophy! :) Actually, I think we should have used the round before the comp (the one where I got 30 kills and was 10+ ahead of everyone :D )
Seriously though, twas a good LAN. It's been a while since I've stayed til the end, and even though I didn't go in any real comps, I still had something to do through the whole thing. Got to play a little of everything I wanted to (although would have liked more DC) and leeched to my heart's content.
Next time, Hamilton people take two cars, so I don't feel bad for making the others stay longer cos I was playing still. :)
i thought that the lan was really good :)
only bad thing was wen my power supply died durring the cod comp :/
and no cs
I thought it was an awsome lan. had some great fun. i hate grimreaper he should die. lol jk
cod comp fucken rocked!
i dont think i played any other games :S
i would have had more to share but unfortunatly i made a tiny mistake and fried it... ah well!
leeched to my hdds bled through their chassis. So yeah i had an all round fun night. looking forward to more comps. and more virus checking.. who had that virus anyway???
anywho well done to the organises for setting up yet another brilliant lan. well done boys.
i'll amp that final comment up a little winter, GOOD JOB FOR ALL WHO ORGANISED!!
I found morb6 a good time for my second time, m5 was dod, it was good to see some variety, i wanted to get into savage but i couldn't get it running and it needed to be patched, updtated, etc, i kept meaning to ask delta (whom i leeched ti from) but never got round to it!
The Ascension (my clan) finally made its debut in a clan match against grim and the tattered remains of OWNZ, i'd like to say for the records that we let them win, 452-7, i think that covers that!! OK, we were OWN'D something chronic.
All in all, i think morb 6 was good, great to see that you went over the limit of seats, how awesome was that!!
once i got my network issues sorted out, i was most impressed. especially with the whole intranet website with all the info and stuff. Very professional!
I didn't get to play many games besides CoD but still had fun. Should have made the CoD comp Behing Enemy Lines, not Deathmatch. or maybe the Demolition mod if they got all the bugs out.
I must have missed the DC match. still haven't played that properly yet.
Well done though all round. when's the next one....?
Great job again guys. awesome LANage.
Blitz whooped arse at DoD yet again (no surprises there) but i want it known that i killed BunkyB TWICE!!! and it was beautiful! so HAHAHAHHAHAHA to you, fucker.
Thanks Sks for your bountiful movie collection. i nicked 51 movies and most of them where from you!
I think next time we should have a door prize just for females, to increase my odds of ACTUALLY WINNING SOMETHING. lol. yeah right!
And lastly (thankz SkS), Kill Bill is one of the most AwEsOmE things i've ever seen and the Game would be sick as!
Go home to you mothers,
Kitty
I think next time we should have a door prize just for females, to increase my odds of ACTUALLY WINNING SOMETHING. lol. yeah right!
I volunteer to be that door prize next time. :D
Unless someone starts learning stuff from Kill Bill. :(
need i post the results of the BliTz vs 0wnZ war :D
gg to all involved.
The network bandwith was fantastic this time round.....All we need next time is some gigabit action !!! :-)
yeh w00t for the organisers
morb 6 was pwn
the cod comp was really fuckin fun
the dod comp was really fuckin crap :P
but like a smacked dave with a shovel so i won :)
it was awesome top job to all involved
cya next time
-smurf
yea tiptop lan thanks to sol for the desktop fan in the side of the case idea system stoped freezing up after that
Yet another Succesful Lan for MorB..can it get any better? ..91 peepz vnice.
Well I certainly had a good time. Kicked ass in the first round of the Warcraft 3 comp, but got my ass kicked in the second, lol. It was a shame the Blitz vs everyone game of DoD didn't happen though, I was looking forward to that :(
PS I'd like to heartily thank Clawcity for keeping the urn full during the LAN. Good job Claw
I'd like to heartily thank Clawcity for dying so easily in our little Liberation match with Peachy. Good job Claw. :D
yes, mhm - another awesome LAN. i cannot believe i spent teh majority of it playing (and gettin my ass handed to me in) DoD. cbf with the CoD comp and was probably the 1st LAN ever where I did NOT play MOHAA/S/BT (nobody on teh server everytime i looked) :(
so all in all pretty good, and was happy that my DoD server only crashed once from a segmentation fault after a uptime of 14 hours. unlike from the dreaded permission errors i was having at prevous LANOTD's.
yeah claw, good work, and for ownin me an axol in the first round of WC3, i think you were the only one that got me, i never saw ripper until he was killing axol's last base, good game anyways
what a lan
i got eaten in the snipey rifley joy that was the suckky codzor comp.
i stole a alot o' stuff from everyone but i couldn't find a copy of "once apon a time in mexico" and everyone got miles of unadulterated joy from my pron collection.
no props to the urn boy coz hee don't deserve it!!!!!!!!!!
How'd the headphones go Peachy?
No offence morb admins and others who helped to get the whole lan organized. But it was a tad disorganized. I know its not easy to organise an 80 person lan especially when one of those 80 is me. But it was just a tad disorganized. First off, We don't really like turning up at the designated time to find out that it will take an hr or so for you guys to get ready..... you designate a time to be there and you should be organised by then. I also think that you needed the projector to show what the dc ++ Ip is, What servers are up, stuff like that. The comps were kind of not on time. For poor ppl that were wanting to go places but couldn't cause we were waiting for comps to start were not really happy. The idea for the laptops at the door for you to log in was good... but it kind of had to make us wait in line for like half an hour while the ppl up front singed up. To be honest I don't care if you continue to use this method of seeing whos there or not and what comp ppl are going in.... As long as we don't have to wait that long again. I'm sure you guys are smart enough to figure out another way to speed up the waiting time a bit. Other than that... it was a pretty awesome lan. Soz about the criticism... but I think that the next morb will be so much better from me and others from putting in there own two bobs worth.
um. dude.
dc.morb 1. isn't that hard to guess 2. was on the info sheet that u got as u walked in the door if i remember correctly
also the game servers that where up at the time was display on the intranet. like the handout explained.
i cbfed explaining the rest.
as damo said re the info sheet...
the domain name didn't work for the intranet for a while tho so many gave up after first trying and did not return there...
think things running on time needs to be worked out better...
those complaining about having to wait in line however, why not just go an hour or so later and avoid the ques... lans aren't the only thing in life where such logic can be applied - take peak hour traffic as an example if you will.
competitions and or gaming needs to be organised somehow - an 80 person game where little or no game recieves enough exposure that half the gamers in the room are playing it leaves a bit to be desired... as i've always said a schedule of times (that is stuck to) should be used to organise what games should (hopefully) be played at what times, leaving time for leaching and "playing what you want to play".... this isn't easy to set up i'm sure but as beefy and the hamilton crew have shown at the one lan i have attended there, it certainly is possible to do.
gate locking sucks although admittedly it's easy enough to get in and out if needed (as i did) and theres not much we can do about it... as the only real downfall of the venue, I don't see it as a horrific tragedy...
fluctuations in room temperature were experienced at least in the back half of the venue, not sure if this was felt all around but it seemed to go from one extreme to the next... if some type of climate control is accessible (this may have been causing these fluctuations) is there any way of adjusting it to make for a more steady, comfortable temperature (staying in the one place for a long period of time can become straining if temperatures and the environment are unsatisfactory)...
oh... and also, the lights being switched on and off... I don't mind them being on, prefer them off, but for some reason i recall that for a while there they'd change from on to off or vice versa once every twenty minutes or so... sorta distracting - especially if you need to change monitor settings to suit environment for optimal gaming experience.
the whole reason things didnt go on time was because of the intranet software, however, it was used in place of the projector. info like dc++, game servers, competitions etc were all found at that page.
between the intranet page and the handout everyone got on the door, you should have had enough info to know when everything was _meant_ to happen.
the fact u didnt know what servers were up/dc ip means u didnt use the page the way i intended :/
late entry has been typical of all morbs, we were there at 9am, but i had ppl waiting to get in at about 9-45 which only hampers our setup.
i dont let people in until i know stuff is ready and working. i see no point letting you in if we havent got the dns running or dhcp was down, but most importantly i needed that intranet page running. the delay to entry was mainly due to the fact my dns died! so i had to set one up all the same right there.
the entry time although slower, nobody got in without being introduced to the intranet page, i knew who was here, who wasnt, and when the extras rocked up, i knew if they could fit! We'll be using that same stuff next time. i want to see if we can have it so that people can have their accounts pre-made before the lan next time but toggle whether they are here/paid on entry (will speed things up surely)
if nothing else, MC delta kept everyone informed well.
we admins felt that lan was one of the best organised morb yet (hence u say "tad disorganised" i guess), you can only allow so much time for "those problems" and we had too many of em.
my guess is u were in the line of fire of one of the aircon venty bits :/
i did make the effort to schedule everything this time, but if we _stick_ to it, how does one start a cod comp without a running cod server?
those complaining about having to wait in line however, why not just go an hour or so later and avoid the ques... lans aren't the only thing in life where such logic can be applied - take peak hour traffic as an example if you will.Unfortunately, that didn't work either. :) But I understand about delays, which is why I just started carrying shit inside while everyone waited (no one bothered to stop me, and some clowns thought that if they had a Morb T-shrt on too, they might be able to do the same.. :) )
In any LAN situation, you're never going to know exactly what servers are running when, unless you can get an extra special version of Server Query or something. Half the time people just start servers on their own (I'm very guilty of this, but I cater to the demand of people around me, so meh), which most people won't know about. Now I'm not going to bother and go and log it on the intranet, which was a good idea for server info in theory, but people are too lazy to add and check servers..
Comp times are also a bit iffy. You're gonna get mixed results either way if you run it on time, or run on a floating schedule. Some people were still finishing games of something else half the time, causing the delay. I was actually happy the UT comp started when it did, cos it gave me a chance to come 3rd. :D
Maybe next time it should be made a bit more concrete, and teams get penalised for delays. Give people 5 hours from the start to enter a team, then have a timetable and server info, so people know exactly when and where they are playing (also gotta make sure the server is ready before the game is due to start, and someone's there to restart maps if needed). Next time, I'm willing to step up and actually do something and organise this if you need me to.
I don't mean any offense admins.... I just thought you would benefit from the comments. No offense but the sheet of paper is not the best of ideas. Its like a manual for your computer...... how many of you guys read it????? I know I'm lazy but the projector just seems like a good idea, You can post what servers have been setup by morb admins(you guys) and the stupid things that stupid and lazy ppl like myself can't be stuffed reading on the paper.... you can also update the projector often with a noticable affect on the lanners. Theres a better chance of us realizing that there has been a change, rarther than changing it over the intranet.... I only checked the intranet site occasionally.... partly because I was always in a game, and to check it I have to get out of the game. Its easier just to look over my shoulder towards a projector. Again I mean no offense by my comments... I truly believe that some good can come from them. Im only trying to help guys!!!!!

None taken. (Not that I'm much of an admin though). Even when there was a projector at one of the earlier MorBs, that didn't get used to it's full potential, and I know that a lot of people down the back end of the room had trouble reading it. Who would have trouble reading a website though? The other thing is most of the servers that were up by admins were up from the start, which were listed on the website. It's the other custom made servers (my Savage server, DC, NFS:U, U2XMP, etc...) that are the ones that need listing.
If people didn't read the nice slip of paper that was handed to them at the start of the LAN, then that's their own fault. Any system is only as good as the effort people put into using it. The paper flyer system was there, but most people didn't bother. That's their problem. We offered, can't do more than that.
need i post the results of the BliTz vs 0wnZ war :D
gg to all involved.
haah, it wasn't too bad a raping, we held our own quiet well considering :o
it 1. takes longer to add info to the projector then it dose to click 1 button and trype some stuff... and i know LAST morb skullshot was getting VERY annoyed at the amount of ppl asking him for information THAT WAS ON THE PROJECTOR.
Also. how are we, the admins ment to keep a trac of EVERY server running the place! the dedicated ones that we ran, where up for about 90% of the LAN. what server was running that u didn't know was there?
what server was running that u didn't know was there?
I was sitting next to the servers and I didn't know what was up. :) I just asked whoever was floating around back there if this or that was running.
I usually check Server Query, shame it doesn't work for CoD
The projecter idea is all well and good, but a lot of people seem unable to check even that. Like at LANOTD where we write info up on the whiteboards. You'd think such a simple system would be easy for people to figure out.
1. Look at whiteboard/projecter
2. Read information
3. Play game
Apparently it's all a bit much for them though....
Well IMO i thought the website was an excellent, i am in fact a person with bad eyesight, i found at MorB5 i had to walk down the front to read the projection, still, it was nice to be able to just look at it and make sure you were doing the right thing, going to the right servers, etc.
On the note of servers, i found it not that hard to find out if one was running or not, just go into the LAN of the said game and see if any are up, my comps' fast enuff to run games fast enuff to get in with no worries so i knew what games were up quickly. But usually i was lucky to find the server up for the games i went into, if not, i asked someone to get a server going for it, it worked well, dod was fun, thanx for another sucessful LAN guys, keep up the good work and see u all next time!!
the caffeine log showed that Mr Tweak and Clawcity should be deadBWAHAHAHA proof that I really am Lord Of The Undead. That's right, the secret is to pump the suckers full of caffiene ;)
oh... the Mic/PA was a nice idea.... even if you did have damo as MC... :D
I actually thought he did a good job... most of the time.
i kept TRYING to plam it off.. buT n0o0o0 no one else wanted it did they.
That guy who drew the Door prizes has got to be the sexiest man i have ever seen.... you got to get him back next time.
Other than that it was good being stuck in the hall away from the other "Gamers" and man that backbone switch was awesome & really helped with making morb a great little LAN :-)
The only problem that needs to be fixed for next LAN is the power.... Skull's you can't run 80 PC's off 1 power point!!!
Just need to get a bigger venue for next time... I would like to see MorB at 120!!!!
haha u call it little :P how insulting!
powers isnt a problem if i had 80 ppl... however aside from the 3 EXTRA PPL FROM GEELONG! i had other extras to fit and power-sources were a little stretched then - the urn brought it all crashing down tho :D
SkS - The Hard-Working Aussie Geek :P
I'd never thought we'd fill that Area. Now we need a bigger one.
Wow how would have thought that we'd have a LAN in warrnambool that drew people from around the state.
No need to get all offended delta.... This is a forum for opinions.... I'm just sharing mine. I've already expressed that I'm only trying to help. I didn't say that you should put every single server of games being played on the projector.... just the ones you guys are running. I no that I like to come up and get you guys to put what I'm running up so that anyone else wants to know they can just look there. I guess the projector just seemed like a good idea. If its that much trouble to use the projector thats fine. I had no idea that it was that hard. I only mentioned it because it seemed like a good idea. I liked the idea of the microphone.... beats yelling anyway I guess. Anyway theres no need to get so deffensive delta.... I'm just trying to express ways of makeing the biggest lan in warrnambool more enjoyable, thats all.
True, gros brought up some hassles we both where & wheren't aware of. Keep em coming critisism is fine.
Theres always room for improvement.
Thanks tommy.... its good to see someone can see the point I'm getting at
or he just wanted you to shutup :D
urns and computers on the same power grid don't mix... we discovered that at my first shedlan if i recall... or was it the second?
i dont think we needed a PA, we had peachy yelling commands all over the place when the WC comp was on, and then after it was all delayed and stuff cause of blaster and etc. his mobo died and he shut up pretty quickly!
There should have been more skirts.. I want to see the MorB admins is skirts next time.
And there should have been a shrine to worship me "CherryPopper"
You get admins in skirts, I get random wrestling matches...
Sounds good.... whens the next morb
