LAN Of The Damned V

We'll be holding our 5th LAN Of The Damned on November 15th & 16th at the Special Development School hall. The Medal Of Honor: Spearhead competition will be held once more, perhaps this time The Master will be knocked off his perch as reigning champ.
A venue map (http://www.lexicon.net/clawcity/SDSMap.jpg) showing the location of the LAN is available.
Now some details for you all:

All IP addresses are to be set to automatic
All PCs running Internet Connection Sharing must have it disabled
Bring your own powerboard
Bring your own Cat5 cable if possible
Kitchen facilities are available
Dedicated games servers will be running for the duration of the event
All smokers are asked to use the ashtray available outside

What apart from MOHAA is going to be played???

i'm sure there will be some DOD and probly VC, Jedi Academy, Quake 3, Insane, UT, UT2003, Soldat, Worms World Party, Robot Arena 2, Halo and various other games that I can't think of. and don't forget the MOHAA Spearhead comp witch is always fun :twisted:

also with a little bit of luck Call Of Duty will be out by the time LANOTD5 comes along, and we most certainly will be running up a server of that if it is released.

another game that ususaly make an apperance is War Craft 3

prolly will also see homeworld 2 it seems to be the game of the moment with a growing number of peeps.

and if none of thos games appeal to you you are most welcome to suggest a game that you want to play as long as it aint CS :twisted:

Kool i hope CoD is going to be out, i played the demo and i recon its looking to be a good game.

PS: is anyone going to play games other than regular FPS? Maybe actualy organise a RTS mini comp of Generals (plz) with/without the Zero Hour Expansion.

ha ha ha - i remember about 2 months ago when munch nagged The_Master, MaxPak and myself for a game of CS and we were like "nooooooooooooo fukk off that game is sooo lame!!" so then he goes and plays it online anyways.

Also, as of yesterday. my linux box has carked it. don't know exactly yet what's wrong but it's either the CPU or motherboard. should hopefully have it resurrected by the LAN for more DoD serving goodness.

Any help with configuration with the server would appreciated Delta. generally a game server running in linux is a bit touchier and harder to setup than it's Win32 counterpart but as you all saw at LANOTD IV, the result was defenitely worth it. the map rotation was untouched, ie. default. and the round time was set at 15 minutes, which, according to Munch is what the DoD round time limit has always been for LANOTD.

UPDATE: after undergoing further testing, The_Master and myself have confirmed i have a dead motherboard (fukkin ASRock sh!te) this has pissed right me off. not only does the computer have to be stripped right down and put altogether again when the replacement board arrives but Gentoo will most likely need to be reinstalled (UGH!!!) it will take me weeks to get it back just the way i had it. i am probably lookin at chuckin my Gigabyte GA7VA from my main box into the linux box and get a Nforce 2 based board for the main box. What a shit of a week it's been :(

I happen to have a zip file containing the linux server for a whole lot of common games all ready preconfigured. All that would need to happen is that 1 or 2 of the games would need an update.

ovcause the teams will be appropratly devided depending on skill / ability to physicaly play due to broken wrists etc. etc.

On a more serious note will there be servers of Hidden & Dangerous 2....and Call of Duty as I think these additions will make for an interesting lan.

Shadowman, while it's blindingly obviously you like those two games, what's going to make them different from any other new game at a lan that doesn't get played? I thought people would play lots of BF at a lan, but no.. :(

BF gets played a fair bit up this way. mostly Desert Combat though

New variety, these are just games that I enjoyed and believe others will too as they are both very similar to MOHHA which is not a bad thing. Worms3 is a new game but I dont think I will suggest that. :lol:

not super graphics?? they are awsome and very clean, all it is, is a tweaked RtCW engine. so the graphics are equaly as good as that

I got CoD, but i didn't buy it, didnt want to get shot you see. I played the first 2 missions, they are very quick and the 3rd was the demo mission so I stopped there and checked out the multiplayer maps.

MY GF4 Ti4200 128mb had the game sitting on 90fps, but thats on a map with no one there, tried a few grenades and gunfire and it dropped to about 86 but i think it will run smoothly throughout the game

takes a little bit of time to set up. Then you have to allow time for things to go wrong. More ppl there though means things get done quicker.

Well guys. I think I might have to cancel my registration after all. My CPU temp is now idling @ 58 degrees.

I ordered a bloody new heatsink/fan from scorptec, but hasn't arrived yet. Not bloody happy. Getting a thermaltake volcano 7. Dont want to get anything real expensive, since it's pretty much a budget system, and I'll upgrade next year probably.

Bit annoyed with this huge rise in temperature. Used to idle at around 30-35 max, now it's 20+ higher than that.

So I apologise to Rodney, JT, and anybody else involved with LANOTD.
