LAN Of The Damned IV - The Aftermath

Another LAN Of The Damned is over with. We'd like to extend our thanks to sKuLLsHoT for once more helping us out with equipment, and also to Hamz for providing his popular Linux DoD server.

We'd be interested in hearing what everyone thought of the LAN and we'd also like your opinions on the new venue.

I think the Medal Of Honor: Spearhead competition ran smoothly and hope all parties enjoyed themselves. The winner and still reigning champion was The Master.

The door prize of a MorB Tshirt was won by General Grosnich.

Awards were allocated for the comp for the most kills with each weapon, a nice little novelty I think.

Cool I was 4th overall and don't even play the game :) sweet

It wasnt a bad lan.. still dominated by mohaa and dod.. i got bored or mohaa. hopefully there will different games next time.

i blame kitty for the dod, she just loves gettin knifed so much!

i enjoyed the whole LAN, apart from the lack of stamina on the admins part...1 sleeping, and the the other too tired to handle requests...
and apart from the fact, that i just got half way thru what i thought would be a full divx, of charlies angels, only to find there is a second half missing! Jez, u might wanna take a look at your archives!! (thx all the same for your generosity!)
Shadow also experienced the same phenomena last nite, tho im not sure on the details...
now i know to check for an ending before i start watching (i forgot about shadows exp. last nite!)

all in all it was still a great night, and look forward to the next guys

As always I enjoyed the MOHAA games, comp or otherwise. Got a copy of the Call of Duty demo too and it looks like it's gunna be pretty sweet!
Once again I played DoD, got sick of it, and then swore I would never play that fuking game again (until the next lan)
Enemy Territory sucked but there was only 4 of us and at least 3 of us had no bloody idea what we were doing. I completely missed VC and Halo but had a great game of Quake 3.
Overall the lan went pretty smoothly. I didn't even get annoyed sitting next to Winter..... :)

I thought the change of venue worked. There was more room and when people remembered to shut the door it was warm (especially that heater ZZZZzzzzz).

I wasn't sick of the same old games being played because I new thats how it would be before I went there. The MOH comp worked well and the rateings and awards for the comps was a great touch. Some of the maps in the final could have been chosen better though, that last level was complete chaos, I was not alive more than five seconds after spawning.

Still credit to Clawcity and Munch, even though Claw slept half the LAN and Munch organising a game server for the wrong game I think they did well.

Just a quick note on leaching though. Useing DC++ is a good idea, but could people please not share non working material, the amount of times I leached over movies and mp3's just to find out that they didn't work was really f*#@ing annoying. I mean it's really not that hard, is it!

But apart from the usual bitching I thought the LAN was an enjoyable event and looking forward to the next installment of LANotd.

One of the reasons ppl had stuff that was half finished was I turned DC off any time I played a game. So if someone was d/ling off me. Sometimes only half the file would be there etc.

I could be wrong but thats a possibility of what cuased the problem.

A) a lot of people probably didn't know what stuff didn't work.
B) what do you mean when you say it didn't work anyway? You sure it wasn't just a codec problem or something?

im with beefy, part B is most comomn, namely coz incomplete downloads in DC++ arent shared.. unless u share the temp downloads folder :roll: so what u said, shouldnt happen TB.

i had fun as i always do... sifnt lemme teach u all how to play mohaa..

ya, I leeched cradle to teh grave from somewhere I think it came from some d00d that leeched my handle (ie: Shadow)
got through the file to find that it was only half there..grrr what erks me the most was that the file name had no title to depict this (ie: Cradle to the Grave Disk 1 of 2.avi) would have been nice. :evil: instead of c2g [some more crap here].avi

But overall the lan was another success for the LOTD guys.. :lol:

sifnt u should have just got the c2g VOB files from me... DOLBY DIGITAAAAAL!

over all a very enjoyable lan.
nice venue plenty of space.
mohsp comp by the sounds of it the maps could have been chosen better in the finals!
i walked away wif 2 awards (stoked at that!)
a bit ticked at everyone and their dogs not sharing up anything really usefull over dc++(did collect a hell of a lot of music thoo)
but all in all it ran really well in my eyes!

props to claw and munch for another well sorted out lan.

Yeh that was annoying that not many ppl where sharing stuff.
Jez, the master, Sks had heaps shared but that was it.

I got Pizza the Movie & Finding Nemo though So I was happy :D

Meh Tommyboy Leached that offa me - so did most of the people there, but that was about my only claim to fame at LOTD IV.

just wanted to say that *ahem* i sooo would have won...ok...came somewhere in the standings... for the MOH comp. i just made the fatal mistake of ASSUMING i had spearhead untill the very last moment. yes, it sucked. No cannon fodder for youz!
I was very happy to find it was easy to weasel you guys into playing my much craved DoD. thanks much, it was wicked fun! and as if i didnt get in some awesome shots!! :D i rule!!
and yes Munch, one day i will stop being such a wussy little bitch and show you my TKD skill, or lack there of... 8)

well i had an awesome time at LANOTD IV.. played some dod which was mad....and yeah twas an awesome server Hamz.... but no1 seemed to wanna play a multi game of Carmageddon TDR with me.... oh well... and yeah nice one damo "OH NO MY VIDEO CARD FELL OUT!!'....heh sure.... tanked fool.... Munch just to clear up that Brad/Scorpio and I weren't on acid LOL..... just went for walk back to my house lots for game enhancers heh.....had a mad time looking forward to the next one...

It's true that sharing was pretty sparse at the LAN. It seems to be getting worse at every LAN I attend. But we can't make people share stuff so it's up to you LANers to improve the stuff available to leech. I personally prefer DC++ as opposed to sharing via Windows. It gives you more control over bandwidth and stuff. Plus everyone seems to enjoy using it as a chat program, lol.

well the lan was great and as for the sharing I will only shair on DC so I can limit the bandwith so I can leach and play games at the same time :twisted:

Im never going to share large/popular files in the workgroup cause it makes the computer unusable. I don't notice this in DC and its alot more user friendly.

Just a note on that limiting of bandwidth, sure its good for when your gaming but does anyone manage that so when your not gaming your giving as much as you can because its shocking at only getting 50k on a LAN which i had at one stage.

Heh I never went into dc at all the time i was there, even tho i've been burning dvds full of data the last few days to get some space on my drives (only had about 15gb of 280 free!)

I did have most of my stuff shared via the workgroup but i think someone only noticed that and copied for a short time; lag didn't last long.

machine dependent this can cause mouse lag and make it very hard for that particular person to recieve files. I generally only give one slot when not gaming, and grant others as requested.

and don't complain if people don't share stuff at all - it is illegal remember.

well i leave 4 sots open, and any1 that requests a file from me that is under 7mb gets a slot automatically, i leave bandwidth limited at 10mb/s but i tend to uncap it and re-cap it just coz sometimes every1's speeds get slow, some wierd prob with b/w manager

Hell yes :) Also should organise some other comps with the other games most people want to see played.

comps are good but they are a lot of work & take up way too much time. the mohaa comp ran over 2+ hrs.

I think MorB already cover the area of DoD and Quake 3 comps so we'll leave that to them. That doesn't leave many games to organise comps in. And Tommy is right, more comps means more LAN time burned up and more work for admins, who are already busy as it is. And considering the trouble we had getting the LANers to sort themselves out for only 1 comp, any more might compromise our sanity.

I don't mean like full on comps where you win stuff... Just fun games.. But organised by anyone from the lan! Anyone can enter.. doesnt need to be a full on comp.

Have something a little different.. like an Atari Boxing tournament or something.. :) Something that's good for a laugh.

thanx guys for the positive feedback on the DoD server, makes spending ages tweaking and testing it all worthwhile. depsite running into 1 or 2 quirks, all is good and I am more than willing to do it all over again for LANOTD V and maybe even MorB 6, depending on what sKs has to say to that =)
