We've got another LAN Of The Damned out of the way and would appreciate some feedback from those who attended.

well JT, i think it sucked totally. the whole time i was there i didn't get to play 1 decent game. i want a refund. :P

09-06-2003, 06:08 PM
That may have been due to the fact you didn't bring a computer...and i'll gladly refund the $0 you paid me

Not enough competitions...
There needed to be like set competitions...
Yeah the MOHAA one was good and there was the DOD one. BUT that was the ONLY one..
What happend to some comps in INSANE, or ENEMY TERRITORY, and any other decent game out there?
There wasn't enough game play where we were all getting into the action. It was usually like 4-5 people in a game...
There also seemed to be a lot of piss fartin around with the servers and stuff..
Should allocate time to leech and time to play instead of everyone doing it whenever.. maybe leech first 2 hours or so play some games leech for another hour play more games and so on..
Other than that it was alright.

well they aint "competitions" as such

but remember I'M THE BEST MEDIC YOU ALL SUCKED!

hah as an additional note, i looked up robot arena on the webby and there is a v1.2 patch ( www.robotarena.com ) which is supposedly meant to "reduce" the lagging probs we experienced lanning it, there is however no mention of the problem we had wherein 4 ppl could not play concurrently.

I'm the best medic!

10-06-2003, 01:46 PM
Yes you are.
/me hands you a medic award for best medic.

I'm the best engineer!!! :P

That's always the way. It's AFTER that LAN that you find all the patches. I remember the same thing happened after Insane made it's LOTD debut...

I just wanted to say thanks to claw & all the LOTD Gang, the LAN was pretty good and they put in a lot of effort.

As cool as robot wars was, it took over the lan and we had over half the people at the lan spending hours building robots, finding they sucked and then modifiying them again.

apart from that was pretty fun. We'll have to have a decent size game of RTCW It was funt with 6 ppl so more would only add to the fun. It was pretty similair to MOHAA so most of the mohaa players would like it.

10-06-2003, 04:20 PM
similar to mohha but the classes are cooler in wolf et, and im the best medic

Not enough competitions...
What comps??? There weren't any comps.

There also seemed to be a lot of piss fartin around with the servers and stuff..
Huh? When?

Should allocate time to leech and time to play instead of everyone doing it whenever..
As godlike as I am, I am still unable to force people to do that.

I'm the best engineer!!!
Hell no, I'd out engineer you any day!!!

I just wanted to say thanks to claw & all the LOTD Gang
Glad you had a good time Tommy :D Thanks for the use of your switch.

i'm the best medic
Sigh...yes sKuLLsHoT, you were the best medic.

Thanks to The Master for his switches also.

And of course a big fat thank you goes out to sKuLLsHoT and Blacklord for the game servers they supplied along with other bits and pieces. On ya lads!!!

11-06-2003, 04:32 PM
hmmm

trying to tell ppl when to leach and when to play.
you try it.

in order to get that to happen we would have to run around the room with metal poles and threaten ppl do do so and that s hardly the lan enviroment that i think we all want.

in regards to the messing around wif the games servers this is because Im not entirely familliar wif the setup phase, this is somthing that i am currentyly working on and we should have a lot better Mohaa servers come LANOTD IV, i will also strive to have better knowlege on how to setup Viet Cong and a few others.

it all takes time,

if any one has any suggestions on servers that they would like to see in the next LANOTD let me know an I will make an effort to get to know the server configs.

/me will run a seminar on seting up game servers, co-hosted by BlackLord, my young padawan..

we can teach all who wish to know the art of game servers. free of charge bring a notepad..

hands up who would like to learn?

well the everyone play this everyone play that thing works at beefy's hamlans, even if the cs n00bs have to have their game played, at least they all have a go at everyone elses games too.

I figured out on the weekend why that system worked here in Hamilton.

Basically at the HamiLans, most people are just happy to be at a LAN and will happily play whatever. Most of them won't have half that games that people wanna play, so it's kinda gotta be organised to get people to install certain types of games. Plus there's no-one really headstrong that wants to push their own game. Most of the time it comes down to the organisers (usually me) to decide on what's happening. I keep my opinions out of what people want to play, and things seem to work.

At my lan on the weekend, we played Raven Shield, DC and Rise of Nations. A couple had a game or two of Generals during the day. But this worked because people just wanted to play.

In the Warrnambool scene, things are different. People actually have games in mind they really wanna play, like the MoH:AA group, the DoD fans, etc... They'll push these games to be played, as we've seen. Plus most people have played all the games around to know what they do and don't like, and will stick by that opinion. Everyone knows my feelings towards the HL engine and Q3, but I don't get heavy on people that wanna play it. But there's too many strong, varied people to all sit and listen to someone and play something.

My 2c.

Munch]we would have to run around the room with metal poles and threaten ppl do do so and that s hardly the lan enviroment that i think we all want.
This is true....but it'd be fun and would make for some interesting LAN photos...

Munch]in regards to the messing around wif the games servers this is because Im not entirely familliar wif the setup phase
I think the delay was more because we were waiting for a certain individual to copy accross the game and he took forever.

hands up who would like to learn?
Me oh great and wise master

well the everyone play this everyone play that thing works at beefy's hamlans
It doesn't seem to work here. I had various ded servers running the whole time and if people didn't like the game they went and played Freelancer or Robot Arena 2.

there's too many strong, varied people to all sit and listen to someone and play something
I agree. Unless there is an organised comp which seems to draw people in even if they don't like the game. Everyone likes to prove they are l33t.

12-06-2003, 09:27 PM
winter, u want comps... go ahead and organise them yourself...

12-06-2003, 11:00 PM
Someone will have to introduce me to Smacktardnights at M5....

13-06-2003, 02:03 AM
Not all LAN goers obviously, but some really piss me off. For the last two LANOTD events we've had a whiteboard where I write up all the servers that are currently running. I even mentioned this in the thread for LANOTD III and it has "Servers" written on it in huge lettering. Yet I still get people who walk up to me and ask what bloody game servers are running!! And the whiteboard is right behind me where they can't miss it!!!!!! Damn smacktards.

But what really makes me wanna grab a mouse and garrot someone with the cable is people who sign up for LANs and don't even have the decency to unregister when they aren't going to turn up. It's kinda handy for the organisers to have some idea what the hell is going on, especially if the event is full and people are waiting for a seat. And this is after I send out e-mails reminding people to unregister if they can't attend. BAH!!!

The photos from LANOTD III are now in the MorB photo album. Check 'em out to experience the excitement of LANing LOTD style

I'd be interested in learning the art of creating game servers.

13-06-2003, 07:17 PM
if ppl are honestly curious about runnin servers, it may be worth our while to organise some sort of "class"

i dunno how i'd do it but we could either show somefin hands on or should we like make a little how-to with an example and just have it all written up? it would be good if there were a few other people that could run/manage servers at morb just so we could pass the responsibility around a bit

13-06-2003, 08:06 PM
This is why I'm organising smaller short comps in a number of games for MorB 5

All the comps i run (except the RPG an RTS comps) will have a cap on the number of ppl who can join (b/t 30 an 40) so that there are enough people not playing in the comp to play other games.

The Comps give an incentive for people to play DIFFERENT games. By making Random Teams you give everyone a chance at winning. With the double elimination format everyone gets at least 2 good games of it but only those who are keen an winning will go though. I've found most people are more keen to play in a comp if they be winning.

This is something new for MorB 5 an it will be interesting to see how it goes.

Lists of all the commands for the different games would be very useful.

14-06-2003, 12:09 PM
Most of them you can find on the internet. Now that you know you want them, just do a search. :)

14-06-2003, 02:13 PM
Why would u want to be introduced to me? :S dont u hate me? lol

14-06-2003, 06:12 PM
sure a list of commands is a good idea, i would really just be compiling a bunch of server resource and admin links together which would be a good idea..possibly just a new section in the links page..

14-06-2003, 09:26 PM
I had a good idea? WOO HOO!!!

15-06-2003, 01:46 PM
Why would u want to be introduced to me? :S dont u hate me? lol

One does well to be able to identify one's enemies.. ;)

17-06-2003, 04:35 PM
I'm not that bad lol...
JT am i really that bad?????

17-06-2003, 05:56 PM

19-06-2003, 03:22 AM
No i mean am i annoying? Seriously?

19-06-2003, 03:26 PM
I don't think so, i've put up with far more annoying people.

19-06-2003, 11:32 PM
Woohoo!
