I know what you mean man - been discussing that with the guys lately myself. Internet-born peered games seems the way the industry is moving.

whats the deal with SC2 not my sort of game but is it in the same boat as the latest COD titles etc?

ahh yes but are you aware that there are talks amongst Activision that suggest that the CoD series may become a pay to play system as per WoW....... its started already with paied for DLC.

Is the future of LANing.... WANing wherein we book a bunch of dedicated servers and just hookup online and run comps send out prizes by mail and just sit in our own homes forgetting teh reason we LAN'd in the first place?

Crucial (http://www.crucial.com) are once more providing us with 4 gig of DDR3 to give away as well as some Hawgs, t-shirts and caps. Cheers guys :)

South West TAFE (http://www.swtafe.vic.edu.au) will be sponsoring the event. Their contributuion is to promote their Advanced Diploma of Computer Systems Engineering (http://www.swtafe.vic.edu.au/coursefinder/displaybrochure.aspx?id=107) which, for those unfamiliar with it, is a course we'd recommend for anyone considering a career in IT. The course includes several industry recognised certificates such as Microsoft certification, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), and CompTIA's A+ Certification. It also includes some Java programming and Linux.
Aside from providing a generous sum of money, they are also going to be running a competition at the event for a $50 Superbilling voucher.

shed lan + booze + fast internets with large quota = best of both worlds..
can grief pub servers with your mates and enjoy leeching both online and off :P

i will still goto local, properly organized lans though as long as they are going.

i reckon the last LOTD had a decent turnout? considering way less actually registered. fair few console gamers aswell, which was great

Munch
10-08-2010, 07:30 PM
yeah we were reasonably happy and to say the least surprised with the turnout, given the fact that we only had like 32 registered i think it was in the end we even had to pull out a few extra seats and tables lol it turned out that we had somehere in the area of 45 turn out in the end i think it was i not entirely sure but it was much better than i personally expected.

hoping for a better attendance this time around.

as for the comps we are looking at the following.

With the flavor of the moment going with Starcraft 2 we have elected to run an old fashioned SC Broodwars comp :), TrackMainia Nations Forever and CoD 4 Gun Game will be a little somthing extra and fun for the LAN.

Prizes will be as mentioned at a later date once we have confirmed the details of them.

ok now that's out of the way are there any people that would be interested in playing some "oldskool" battlefield 1942 if so we will get cracking on getting a server of that working for somthing a little different.

Well giving away $1,200 in prizes and money doesn't boost the numbers.. lanning is just simply.. dead.

Sad really

they aren't all that organised at Stpius one of the many reasons we left, that and they kept accusing us LANers of trashing their tables thats why they only give those shity bloody 1 seat trestles.

anyhoo that's all past now.

Hoping that BF1942 actually works with windows vista/7 cos im looking forward to a game or 2 of it, i figure being that the best of LAN gaming is being left behind by game Dev's we may as well play the best LAN games from the past.

If you want that, then whoever is in charge of the site NEEDS TO TAKE THE OLD ONE DOWN, or change all the pages to say "Hey over here" not just the main page. Or at least re-direct the domain name to here, i know of about 5 people that didnt go to the last lotd because the old morb site said nothing was on.

Also if we have a cod4 comp, i'll eat my computer, cant we have a Left 4 Dead 2 comp or TF2? or Plain Sight? or something.

Ok m8 firstly our as in LANotd website has been at the same place for the last god knows how many years, we have had our own rego system for the last 3 LAN's. Any news LANotd related can be found at http://lanotd.viclan.org.au (http://lanotd.viclan.org.au/), its a quiet forum to say the least but any news we have to share is posted there. :)

as far as the MorB forums go there was more than enough notification that they were constructing a new site I fail to see how anyone could have not known it was happening to be honest. :p

as for the comps I hear what you saying about cod4 but there is no reason you actually have to play the comp. we are having 3 comps this event all of which are intended to be light hearted, simple and fun trying to stay away from the serious stuff thus the reason we are playing CoD4 gun game instead of promod again.

anyhoo if u want to play some l4d there will be more than a few of us that will happily play along to m8 im always keen for some zombie killin

I know that the comps are just for fun, but some of the prices make them very temping to win, do i want to enter them, but i dunno, just always COD4 and the same people always win.

But then again, we don't want a repeat with the UT2004 from last year, where only like maybe three people had it on their PC, and by the time i got it the comp was over, haha.

Anyhoo, i'll be running a l4d2 server and maybe a tf2 server or something on my PC, to try and get people to play.

We're fairly limited for comps since many new games don't support LAN play. We've only had 3 FFA CoD 4 comps and they were won by 2 different people. As they say, you gotta be in it to win it. However if you do decide not to give CoD 4 a go, we do have 2 other comps you could try.
Regarding the peeps who didn't have UT2004. We have no control over that. Every event we advise people to install and test the games ahead of time, and every event people ignore us. Their loss if they can't compete.

Jack's Games have supplied us with a couple of games to give away. The Club for PC, and Quantum Of Solace for X-Box.

Something to think about, Gold Members can borrow a game or DVD, and then keep it for as long as they like. Once you get sick of it simply go back and exchange it (for a small fee) which can also be kept indefinately, and so on. You not longer have to worry about returning games after only a week or paying late fines. If it takes you 6 months to finish your fave new game, that's no problem.

Prices for Gold Membership are listed below:
P3, XBox 360, Wii - $100 joining fee, $10 exchange
XBox, P2, PSP, PC - $50 joining fee, $5 exchange
DVDs - $30 joining fee, $5 exchange
