Hey ppl. As you all now know the next MorB isn't that far away and its now time that we ask for your input to make this the best LAN yet. Keeping in mind that this is a Christmas LAN we want some idea's from you guys as to what you may want to see this year at the event.
all prizes come in stockings, handed out by santa. admins wear elve costumes or something
be worth the admission price just for the lolz alone
i guess i'll have to download my Christmas presents this year :)
Perhaps the attendees could dress up all festive like? or if we are to have a comp, even though we may be flogging the ol dead horse here, play a FFA comp on CoD4 level Winter Crash.

there was talk from Rib and Donkey about a Guitar Hero/Rock Band comp, that doesn't sound too bad, and MorB haven't had one of those in a while, im just throwing ideas here though
In reference to what braden has just mentioned, since we all know already whom among us is quite skilled in the guitar playing abilities on such games, what if they changed the scene to Dj hero? I myself have played the demo in d'smiths (wont let me say first word, lol) and i must say i did enjoy myself for those lovely minutes.

tf2 5v5, on CP or CTF type maps. even KOTH mode would be fine.
race driver grid, with top 3 from each server going onto a showdown race or something

Only thing I can see being a problem is TF2 legit/non legit players, just like the Left 4 Dead comp..
CSS should be fine as plenty of people seem to have bought that (And if they haven't they should!), and if they don't they can just get the latest .gcf files off of somebody else and run a steam-emu like SteamBuster Revolution..
Of course, this would be piracy however, and I'm sure the MoRB admins would call security and remove them from the venue.....

steam makes games damn cheap these days... You all should be able to spare the 25 dollers to buy the games featured in our comps. L4D posed other issues like not being able to easily play over lan like other hl based games.
but support the devs that give u the entertainment. Buy their games.
Also Im currently updating the MorB facebook page. If your not a member and you use facebook, join it. Simply search MorB in the facebook search. I think it was the second link from my memory. pretty easy tho, title says MORB LANS. :)
sif pirate tf2.. orange box weekend special, bloody thing cost me less than $15 (less than what im about to spend on some pizza coz i cbf cooking again tonight..) and it came with portal, the hl2 games etc..
even without a weekend special its cheap on its own, still totally worth it too, ive played more than anything else this year quite easily, and looking at what else is coming out, may be able to say the same next year still..

on a related topic to the whole steam games thing (which wasnt really on topic either lol), theres a "early holiday - 5 day 1 day sale" atm, some highlights are batman AA is half price today (grabbing that now) and dragon age, farcry 2 is $9.99 ($USD of course, but the $USD has fallen to shit atm.. cheapcheapcheap), but if any of todays specials dont appeal, theres more tomorrow..

You can still 5v5 MW2 easy, there is a hack to get the console up, in which you can change settings, and/or if you're clever, make a ded server.

Haven't even checked out Quake live actually, but i doubt it, browser games dont seem that great, imo.
tried playing it yet? runs just as good as Q3 does but with better hardware support for current generation systems

just in the process of running up some ded servers for the games. and i would like to ask you what servers you would like to see being run as dedicated (excluding mw2)
tf2, please. CP, ctf or koth type maps. the payload ones usually require more players, but the above modes can usually be played 5v5 (or less).
there were other people hosing games at last morb, but i couldnt join in - because i actually paid for my copy :x
there was the legit server i think, but it didnt get anyone joining after the pizzas arrived. was some good games until then, though.
anything else people suggest is a bonus - theres naturally gonna be a cod4 server or 10 - but id like some (legit..) TF2 action. its still my favorite game..
If we were to tf2, would be nice to have access to the Steam cloud so we can at least have our proper profiles and weapons.

just to settle things for the many people who are wanting to play MW2 (if they have it) at the event, it would be a wise idea to join the MorB group on steam, so that private matches can be run without having to run around adding everyone to their frinds list b4 playing

Also because IW are shit and we cannot predict what mw2 will pan out to be (from a server/competition PoV), we are going to fall back to a cod4mw deathmatch comp (Morb have traditionally always run deathmatch as our main comp) :) And we also know it works (we dont want to see what happened with l4d last event happen again :?
We also have a novelty comp (with emphasis on "novelty" :wink: ) those who are old school lanners might have a hint with what we are planning for this one. It will be alot of fun and will be teams of 2 for 2 rounds of ut2k4 with a twist :P
ahh really cod4, was hoping for something better, not going to say its a terrible choice.

yep, am waiting on delivery (today hopefully!) of a whopping 2 hose barbs and some more thermal paste, so i can fit the ~$600 worth of parts that arrived monday..
the hosebarbs & paste are worth less than the express courier postage, but im desperate to get it done in time..
wont be coming to help setup (again) as youd imagine, would have liked to gone to the pre lan drinks.
but ill be having a drink or seven while i fit everything and refill the loop!
so hopefully that arrives today and i can turn up with fancy new graphics card installed
edit: i remember the last LOTD being pretty similar actually, think i totally pulled apart/rebuilt the pc the night before..
should have ditched vista that night aswell and i wouldnt have needed to ragequit the lan, though..

There is your problem, water-cooling is for chumps, PC should [not] be getting that hot, and if you want to "overclock" then just buy a new PC so you don't have to, cause Overclocking is also for chumps. It's like those "cool" guys that get subs and those neon lights for their cars and drive around the same street for 5 hours everynight, every once in a while trying to do a burnout and realizing their crappy machine they spent so much of their government founded money (a.k.a the doll, cause people who waste all that time are unemployed... i understand people who actually RACE cars for a living to make their car cool) can't make it to 60 in under 10seconds, much like cars from the PAST, or an old steam train. Anyways the lesson is; You can cool down your PC with water yes... and you can overclock it like a MOFO and yes, you CAN "soup" up your CAR, and yes you CAN punch me in the face for this stupid rant, but bottom line is, it doesn't make much of a difference, it is debatable, but 2FPS, really doesn't make a difference. The End

i just got an extra 33% stable out of my gpu clock. and ive only been playing around with it for an hour.
already had an extra 50% on my cpu.
i may be a chump, but i like my tech. why bother buying new gear when my current stuff is capable of so much more, with a little fiddling?
some people like playing around with tech. i find it quite fun. not for benchmarks, not for extra FPS, but because its interesting. call it a hobby.
besides, the cost of watercooling is outweighed by how much fun ive had playing around with it, plus the extra overclock will hold off upgrades that little bit longer. ill probably upgrade anyway, though.
you can keep your stock heatsink and generic case, thanks..

Agreeing with t8y on this one, this is clearly coming out of the mouth (or keyboard) of somebody who has no experience whatsoever with overclocking..
When I buy a new graphics card or CPU for example, the extra performance is of course the general reason for the purchase. That said, I have as much, if not more fun tweaking it to get the best performance I can out of it.
Take for example the i7 860 vs the i7 920.
The price difference is pretty huge between an X58 and P55 setup, X58 using tri-channel memory, and socket 1366 CPUs vs the socket 1156 CPUs and the dual-channel memory of the P55 range.
A 20 minute overclock and you can have the $300 cheaper P55 setup performing pretty far beyond the 920 setup.
I shouldn't really bother trying to debunk your argument though because this:
just buy a new PC
is quite obviously the solution to any PC related problem for "chumps" who spend the extra $50 on XXX edition graphics cards, and proclaim their undoubted truths to the overclocking communities of the interwebz.

got esentially the same cpu speed on my old TRUE120 heatsink - though i havnt pushed it yet. gpu is another matter, its higher than i could get on air.
regardless, this type of cpu is 2 years old now and you still cant buy 3.6ghz quadcores. so if you look at it in the way future was, in a way its actually futureproofed the shit outta this system lol
watercooling was one of those "want to try at least once" things. was good fun setting it up, playing around with it.
plus it looks sweet, lol.
