MorB 18 - legal and willing!

MorB 18 is around the corner and we have got some fun ideas and games lined up for you. There will be multiple competitions and the usual bagful of prizes including vouchers, an external hdd, some thermaltake gear, and a few other items that we are still working on.

Competitions
The Main Competition at the moment is
- Left 4 Dead - 4v4 Team Comp Elim/Dbl Elim depending on entries.
secondary Competition will be
- COD4 FFA - a classic!

Possible competitions that we have lined up:
- Team Fortress 2
- Savage 2
- Caption Comp
- More to come...

The sponsor line up is good, with major sponsorship from:

We are also hoping to gain a few more, as even the smallest gift voucher or donation is fun to make you guys and gals play for.

The admin team is working hard to gain sponsorship from as many companies as possible to make each event bigger and bigger, but we are only human and can only do so much. So get the word out, post here with ideas/challenges/questions and we will endeavour to answer your questions to the best of our abilities.

Patches and Games
Please have all games patched up to date, as this will ensure that everyone is ready to roll as quickly as possible.
Patches will be availiable on the server if need be, but we recommend that you have them pre-installed to allow for the "Maximum Gaming Experience".

Food and Drinks
There will still be free coffee and tea, everyone seemed to keep that area nice and clean last time around, so thankfully we can continue to provide that service.
We will endeavour to get the vending machine back for this event, but failing that, we will have softdrink and water bottles available for purchase.


Again, We ask that you simply make sure the coffee/tea area is kept clean and IF there is a bit of a mess, or the urn is empty or low on water, please contact one of the Admin team.

Updates and Virus Checks
You should have updated your operating system and Anti-Virus software as well as scanned for viruses prior to the event.

Intranet
The Intranet will be up for MorB 18, please ensure that after you PC is turned on, you pay for your seat and your PC will be activated on the network. The intranet will be used to join the comps you wish to play as well as for pizza orders. Don't forget to order your pizza early so you don't miss out.

Behaviour:
Remember there IS somewhat of a code of conduct while at a LAN. We want all LANners to have fun and we understand laughter can not be controlled sometimes, but please keep note of this when yelling out after a Kill, Cap or Revenging Shot :wink:

We hope to see as many faces (both old and new) at our events, so please spread the word to all your friends. More people = more gaming = more PRIZES!

comps sound good, guess ill have to get some practice in on left4dead versus then since ive only played it the once i think. actually, cant say ive played much l4d at all lately, but have been plugging away at tf2..

a quick question re: the above games, do most of you guys set steam to offline mode before coming to the lan? id say this was my problem with previous lans and steam games, i set it to offline when i was already there. my one and only peeve with steam is its handling of offline mode..

and yes atm, the registration button is missing and the only way it seems is to paypal. ill wait to rego til later then.. if i can remember my paypal details i might well use that to pay this time though, but not 100% keen on pinkys still after morb16..

paypal is just another option, we aint forcing it on anyone, but it makes life easier and reduces the amount of cash we need to look after on the day ;)

yes i remember morb16 when i donated the pile of silver coins from my glovebox to the morb cash register :P was probably too late to help though i think yas had taken most of the pizza money already lol

Has LAN Nazi been tested with Windows 7?

i reckon we should have a Guitar Hero or Rock Band competition, maybe not with the drums, maybe a Knockout comp would be good, been craving a comp since MorB 15

as has been said since about MorB 15, it's a logistical nightmare of a comp to run. I doubt they would do it, they have heaps more organised for the lan as is. GH has always been a good way to break when you get sick of games.

The new patch has really made 30 times better. More balanced, few more maps, really good game now :)

or how about HAWX? or FEAR2? crysis? natural selection? or some other hit & miss game or mod no-one plays but person X?! thatd be great for some quality competition!

This has been thrown around for the last couple of LAN's but ill suggest it again how about a Crisis comp.
I know its a little power hungry but i think most people these days can play it on at least medium to low graphics.

what can i say it keeps getting suggested, but how many people are honestly going to play it if there is a server up?
Answer: None we had a server up at lanotd 19 and it didnt get touched once and we made sure it was advertised. anyhoo I personally would be willing to give it a go if we can get a server with a few people (at least 10) in it. im yet to play it for more than 10 mins.

When we advertise a comp, we're not sayign these are going to be the only games played at morb =D

If u wanna play vietcong, or cod4 promod, come up and tell us. if theres nothing happening we'll shout it out over teh PA and try to get as many as possible into the game, and if it draws some real interest we'll even hand out some on the spot prizes to the best/lucky gamers.

I myself are pumped for some TF2 and L4D action =D rib and donkey were in my servers the otehr night and had some great fun.

crysis, while i have a copy of warhead, i wouldnt be keen on playing that game at a lan. i didnt find it very entertaining beyond being used as a playable benchmark..
never actually played it longer than an hour though so cant say for sure, but given ive never played it again since...

but i am pumped for some tf2 tho whatever group of randoms id get lunped in with would probably get pwnt by a proper organised team. same with l4d.
not concerned though as i dont attend expecting to win comps anyway, just play some good games
edit: also, americas army 3 comes out in a couple of days, and since its 100% free there should be a few games going on.. if i dont download it before then ill have to grab a copy from someone there (low DL limit)

As one of the few hardcore tf2 players at morb probably, it seems lots of people have the game and play it every now and then, if at all.

All that said there is a certain satisfaction when, after being TKed and minged with all night, you join a server as survivor and instant pistol rush without a medpack, then jump off the nearest high ledge.

Im starting on it today i reckon i have had it for at least 6 months and never even so much as looked at it. operation super spy commences lets see how it goes.no idea what to expect but the spy looks like so much fun.

actually enjoying the spy with the new cloaking unlocks.

the one where you appear to die, but are actually cloaked is great.. rush a sentry, get "pwnt", only to sap it seconds later and facestab the engy

cloak & dagger is good too, though it encourages ppl camping the final cap point for a quick win. which is fine if your the winning team i guess.. almost always find a spy lurking there though

seriously looking forward to this at LAN, especially as ive only got 250mb peak/250mb offpeak left on my cap this month.. no more gaming this week.

Pretty tough learning curve, takes a little while to get it going properly also.

i've been playing the demoman heaps. never had soooooo much gren jumping into enemy territory lol. I scared the bejesus outa a sniper on teh opposite battlements in 2fort last night. jumped from my own battlements to land infront of him and put grens into his face haha

as for downloads, just limited by HDD space i guess

i think 100gb was mentioned as the least amount of freespace most people devour at the LAN..
my limit is about 100gb though, its all my HDDs have free.


of course, the DC hub is strictly for sharing game patches and linux .isos'. :lol:

Ignore the rumour mill. DC runs on the DHCP server.
The server hasn't been replaced as yet. SO it will be the same as the last 8 morbs and so many lotds at least... which were uncapped.

(there is consideration going into a upgrade of the server, the rules wouldn't change, thats like Lan suicide)
