Even up here, I've always had issues with 7 since I got my big screen + digital.

makes a lot of sense too because hamilton's dig tower is the repeater that goes to warrnambool, we always found if we had a problem with tv all we had to do was ask someone in Hamilton and they would have the same problem.

thats the downside of digital in warrnambool, they dont have a decent signal, they run off an already dodgey quality signal from Hamilton.

Was the same when I was up there too.

7 cram too much info into their stream.
(Remember they have the Teletext index on their channel)

ABC and SBS have better error correction in their signal than 7, 9 & SC10.

I remember that ABC was pumping something like 8Mbit for digital, and 7 had around 14Mbit at the same. They both had the same packet size, but ABC chose to use the leftover for error correction, and 7 decided to send more stuff instead.

No error correction + a little bit of atmos activity (high/low pressure, lightning, etc) and 7 goes choppy and ABC cruises on.

And on early DTV Cards (liek mine) this meant shitty signal.

(This was all like 3 years ago when I was looking, so changes may occur)

Well that would explain it, other channels are fine.. while 7 fails.. gawd :(

well edit: everything has totally died now..

SIGH

the worst signal was 9 a couple of yearts back because tower hill transmitted their dig and analogue signals next to eachother and they would cross signals all the time. Also, take into account weather extremes of course at the moment it's heat, but mostly in warrnambool its the wind that causes the most disruption to signal.

Most of the time we just end up watching the analog channel for 7 now. Not as pretty as the others, but it does the job.

not like there's anything good on these days anyway, ever since they took off agro's cartoon connection. mind you, footy is always a plus, i hate the tennis and underbelly is on 9.

but i'll be downloading underbelly anyway.

ha us poor portlanders have no almost shot at digital tv, though the salesmen in town will tell u that u can pick it up perfectly to sell a hi-def screen..... no scruples i tell u, its just not cricket.

the problem with the coastal towns is the salt in the air, it corrodes the contacts in the aerial, pretty much 18 months after you put a new one up it's stuffed.

Our antenna is pretty old but we mostly have trouble with 10 and SBS lately. Seven is usually just fine.

no problems here, thats with SD digital through a teac stb.

tho ill be honest, i cant say ive watched 7 (prime) in a while, tho i caught "how i met your mother" between ad breaks tonight and it seemed to work okay

only problem ive had lately was sbs1/2 not having sound, did a re-scan and they work fine now (?), just a pain having to delete all the HD/duplicate channels from my program guide again, but i got to watch topgear so im happy
